Birmingham Pride held its first event back in 1997. Over the following 24 years Birmingham Pride has become one of the most important LGBTQ+ festivals in the UK attracting in excess of 40,000 people over the course of the weekend to the festival site in the heart of the LGBTQ+ village and over 75,000 participating in or watching our annual pride parade through the streets of Birmingham.
This year, as a result of the global covid pandemic, the Birmingham Pride festival will be held over the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September 2021 with further events held from Thursday 23 rd September 2021.
Our aim is to play a leading role in building a community where all people are free to live without fear or prejudice. We strive for equality for all as part of an evolving global pride movement. Our year round projects and partnerships are focussed on improving the lives of, and empowering the LGBTQ+ community in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. We are committed to challenging injustices, inequality and discrimination for all of our community.
This years theme is ‘Stronger Together’ demonstrating our commitment to stand in unity with all members of the LGBTQ+ community fighting and campaigning against any form of Transphobia, Biphobia, Homophobia and hate. The
Birmingham Pride weekend is the climax of year round activity, where we all come together to celebrate LGBTQ+ achievement, life and love. A ‘safe space’ where our community can be who they want to be without fear or prejudice.
Birmingham Pride has supported numerous LGBTQ+ community groups, charities and events since 2014, raising funds for much needed services within our community. It has awarded in excess of £275,000 and provided additional, accessible subsidies in excess of £105,000.
