Apollion Sauna, nestled in the heart of Rome, has been a staple of the city's gay scene since 1994. Located at Via Mecenate 59A, it's just a short stroll from the iconic Colosseum and the vibrant Gay Street, making it a convenient spot for both locals and tourists.
The venue offers a range of amenities designed for relaxation and socializing. Guests can unwind in the Finnish sauna, steam bath, or take a dip in the hydrotherapy pool. For those seeking a more private experience, there are spacious cabins available. The establishment also features a bar, video rooms, a dark room, and a smoking area.
Apollion Sauna operates daily from 2 PM to 11 PM. Entry is reserved for ARCO members, with membership cards available for purchase on-site. The crowd is a mix of ages, attracting both locals and international visitors. While the cruising area is adequately sized, some patrons have noted that the wet area is relatively small and dimly lit.
For those interested in massages, the sauna offers services from qualified professionals. The jacuzzi, set beneath a brick dome, provides a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The venue's architecture, with its arches and brickwork, evokes the ambiance of ancient Rome, adding a unique charm to the experience.
We really appreciated the hospitality and friendliness of this place. Very clean and a nice layout. Diverse crowd and the facilities were excellent. Lovely jacuzzi and steam room and dry sauna. Massage was good too. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back next time in Roma.
Loved my time here. I arrived at the advertised opening time of 2pm to find there were already a bunch of guys inside. They start letting in from 130pm.The staff were friendly, spoke English, place was clean and non smelly. The setting was beautiful as well (for a bathhouse), a nice rabbit warren of corridors and rooms. Locker room was a bit cramped, but it did mean that guys had to squeeze by on their way past, which I find fun.By about 3pm it was very busy indeed, I'd already hooked up with a couple of guys and used one of the many private rooms for the fun, but the group atmosphere was just so exotic, I got caught up in 2 multi guy sessions, one around 8 and the other I have no idea as was in the dark room and it was all hands and c**ks everywhere. I'm a bottom, so I serviced about 7 or 8 in total in the end. What I loved is that everyone was so passionate, kissing, fondling and f**king. One Austrian guy stands out above all others, Frederico! Apparently he goes most Fridays, I met his husband later in the showers, but Frederico was hung like a mule. He was my first on entry and my last before leaving. If you're reading this, thank you!I also found the crowd mixed. I'm in good shape and early 50s and I met up with plenty of guys younger and older than me, mixed shapes and sizes and all were polite and funYou pay a membership and entry combined of about €30, not sure how much ince you're a member, but the card lasts for a year and can be used in other places as well (I'm heading to Naples next)Its not far behind the coliseum, so you can fantasize about being close to all those sweaty gladiators and providing relief as they return from the arenaIf you're in Rome and looking for fun, you have to go check this place out. Ill be back for sure
The place is easy to find thanks to photos from google. The staff are lovely charming and helpful. The place is big, clean. I don’t like the crowded locker area, they have room to spare, it needs to be redesigned. Typical of gay saunas in Italy you get lockers n the rooms are first come first serve. You get two towels ( surprising, since you have to pay for the second one most Italian saunas). The West Hollywood queens have less attitude than the young gays here. Mind you they are stunning. N it seems to me that the older men are very into that. I prefer mine aged 45 years +😉 which ment for me very minimal choices. The cost was 16$, great! My only other problem was the square sandals, weird.Very nice place I would go back overall
To be fair and objectively, indeed it is like being stayed a parsely populated islet. only around 8-10 people despite the prime time, and most of them are elderly group ppl. The entry fee is 15 euros, and no any drinks or beer are included/gifted. People who come here should be cautious, as you may use 15 to caught the air. hmm envirovenment there not bad. lol
I was there at an odd time close to Christmas so it wasnt too busy. However, I could see that the venue was in a very nice, safe location and was itself accomodating. It is an underground roman bath and the architecture lends to that feeling. There is a steam room, jacuzzi, theatre and dark rooms.I very much appreciated the owner offering me a free day since I arrived at an odd time. That was so kind. I would likely come back due to the pleasant experience and welcoming nature of the lovely owner.
Wont even visit because you should have day passes for tourists. No one wants to pay for memberships that you only use once. Learn from actual world class saunas like Steamworks in Toronto. You are missing good clientele because of this membership bs.
Probably the most aesthetically beautiful sauna I’ve ever seen. It’s located in an old Roman ruin which has been refurbished so tastefully, replete with marble statues and ornaments. I couldn’t think of a better setting to get thoroughly railed. Extremely clean and top class facilities
My experience at this place was disappointing. I went there based on the positive reviews, but I found the sauna to be very basic with an outdated design. I couldn’t stay for more than an hour, and I paid 30 euros for a membership registration, even though I didn’t need it since I’m just here for tourism. Nothing was worth the rating it received. Unfortunately, this was the worst experience for me.
I visited this place in 2021.This sauna is smaller than expected, making it feel crowded at times. The smell in the hot bath is unpleasant, despite employee requests for no action, which were unfortunately ignored. The clientele's restlessness can be overwhelming for those not fully in the mood. Overall, the atmosphere may not be ideal for everyone and there isn’t any proper resting place (hot bath is smelly, hot sauna smelly, people knock on the room if you close it so you’re left with video room… if you can call that resting area). On the good side: decent clientele and it wasn’t totally bad overall.Definitively not recommended for unsure new visitors. If you’re committed from the beginning and you want to see plenty of action you probably won’t be disappointed.
Warm welcome, kind reception staff. Large jacuzzi. Clean and tidy. The Finnish sauna is small. The steam room is practically without any light. You see absolutely nothing, which sometimes creates interesting conditions. The cabins are also well done. Negatives: no bar; too tight dressing room-you can't get away; very uncomfortable slippers; you have to walk if you use the metro. Everything else is ok.
