JR’s Bar & Grill in Dallas is a long-standing favorite on Cedar Springs Road, a prime spot in the heart of Oak Lawn. Opened in 1980, it’s been a cornerstone of Dallas’s LGBTQ+ scene for over four decades. The venue spans multiple levels, including two indoor bars and a spacious covered balcony that offers prime people-watching of the bustling strip below. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, with a focus on creating a safe, inclusive space for all visitors.
JR’s draws a diverse crowd, from locals to out-of-towners, and is known for its lively vibe any time of day—whether you're grabbing a midday drink or dancing on a Saturday night. The bar’s schedule includes drag shows, themed nights, and occasional RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing parties, making it a hotspot for entertainment. With friendly staff and affordable drink specials, it’s a great spot to start or finish a night out in Dallas’s vibrant gayborhood.
The outdoor balcony is a fan favorite, offering a perfect spot to unwind while soaking in the electric energy of the Cedar Springs strip. For many, JR’s is a must-visit, where the classic meets the modern in Dallas’s evolving nightlife scene.
As a Houston native visiting for the experience, i will say the vibe was impeccable. The drinks were drinakable and i got pretty tipsy, the service was decent and attentive (im a bartender too i get it sometimes your mind is E V E R Y W H E R E, so yeah for bartenders, attentive and great). Also the picture guy made the night pretty well. Made me feel gorgeous. Overall best place i was at during my visit to this gayberhood. One note, The door person was just not friendly or anything, but checked IDs well so thats cool just maybe be kinder to people being nice to you. But over all pretty great experience.
I've not felt as welcome at any gaypubs in Fort Worth. Should I live closer, I'd be here daily. The staff were kind and deliciously friendly. Even the other patrons were welcoming. FREE POPCORN, WHAT!!!Go here asap!
Me and my husband stop by today we had a really good relaxing day good hamburger yummy but Dax our bartender amazing 👏 good attitude the best drinks we definitely come back to get more this type of acomodation thank you. Antony the other bar tender allways smiling and he delivered our food amazing 👏 see you next time.😀
I usually love this place but my usual bartender wasn’t there yesterday. I went in and received my bill for $27, I tipped $3 on my card and left a couple dollars in cash. Today I check my account and they took $40 out of my account. Side note: They did the same to my friend as well! What type of business are you running?
Stopped here for some drinks before a show. Clean atmosphere with good vibes and music. Be cautious if you leave a tab open there is a pending authorization of $40 minimum on your card until they batch out their transactions for the weekend.
I would leave 0 stars if I could. The bartender was disrespectful and rude. Calling customers fat while he's been eating plenty food himself. Do not go to...
The staff here seem to work at two different extremes. While the gatekeepers checking documents are very friendly, the bartenders and waiters are very grumpy with customers. The drinks are also prepared, nothing special, it's not bad but nothing special either. But obviously the price is very high. But in return, the very fun atmosphere that this place brings is admittedly wonderful, the only thing is that the MC is quite ungainly when making sarcastic comments that look down on customers.
I visited Jr’s on a Sunday afternoon with a couple of friends. This is a typical gay bar and one of the busiest and biggest on Cedar Springs. I’ve been here a few times because my gay friends enjoy it. We decided to hang out upstairs on the terrace.I have a couple of critiques about the place. First, the music was very loud, making it difficult to have a conversation with friends. If you’re planning to catch up or chat, it can be quite challenging due to the noise level. Second, I found the drinks to be a little overpriced compared to the decor and service. While the atmosphere is lively and the terrace offers a nice view, the pricing doesn’t quite match the overall experience in terms of value.Despite these points, I had a great experience overall. The bar has a vibrant and energetic ambiance that makes it a fun spot to hang out. The terrace was a nice place to relax and enjoy the company of friends. If you’re looking for a lively gay bar with a bustling crowd, Jr’s is definitely worth a visit, even if it comes with a few minor drawbacks.
