La Réserve, nestled in the heart of Brussels, holds the distinction of being the city's oldest gay bar, with a history spanning over five decades. Its enduring charm lies in its old-style décor and cozy seating areas, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that appeals to both locals and tourists. The bar's unique ambiance is complemented by a fine selection of Belgian beers, including offerings from the Enstoemelings Brewery, catering to a variety of tastes. On weekends, La Réserve comes alive with great music, thanks to its updated sound system, attracting a diverse crowd of all ages and backgrounds. The friendly and welcoming staff contribute to the bar's reputation as a place where everyone can feel at home. Whether you're looking to enjoy a quiet drink or dance the night away, La Réserve offers a unique experience in Brussels' vibrant gay scene.
We only had a couple drinks there. It was a very nice and cosy athmosphere with good music and a very, very friendly waiter! Top quality service meaning we were served well. The rest room was a disaster though -- it stank horribly and there was piss all over the place.
I went here the last time I visited Brussels from Scotland as I was going to see Bonnie Tyler in concert there. I had tried another gay bar nearby but I didn't really enjoy it.When I walked into La Réserve, however, it honestly felt like home. I loved the traditional interior and the antique-laden decor. It's so cosy. The location is also ideal, being just a stone's throw from the Grand Markt (though the bar sits down a very narrow street that's easy to miss so if you don't know the city, use Google Maps to find it)The two best things about La Réserve, however, are the staff and the employees. Unfortunately I don't remember anyone's name but the American owner is extremely friendly and chats to you if he's able to - the bar can get busy). There was also another member of staff I met who was really friendly and both of them played Bonnie Tyler songs for me on the stereo when I told them that the concert I'd come to Brussels for had been cancelled - such a nice thing to do for a visitor from Scotland.Speaking of the music, you will hear classics from the 80s and 90s along with Belgian classics and a lot of Belgian Eurovision (someone who works there must be a Kate Ryan fan). The atmosphere is terrific and you'll have a great time in a bar that has zero attitude and where the staff and the customers alike are as friendly as you'll meet anywhere.I highly recommend La Réserve and can't wait to come back the next time I'm in Brussels. Definitely the best bar in Brussel's gay scene.
A nice and cosy gay bar a little detached from the rest. It really embodies the atmosphere of a medieval tavern with its warm welcome. The staff are nice and depending on who'll become your favourite handsome as well 🙂
Randomly came across this place and Sébastien was lovely! He recommended a beautiful beer (Tripel Karnelief) which was lovely. When he overhead us talking about wanting a place for dinner, he recommended Cave du Roy which was outstanding. Thank you Sébastien!
We had been coming to La Reserve on New Year's Day for years. What turned out... They were closed. Are they bankrupt after all? The ambiance is definitely not what it used to be.
The staff here are fantastic, and the traditional bar exudes real character. I enjoyed a couple of coffees today, which were excellent, accompanied by a lovely cream-filled cake and a delightful alcoholic custard. Highly recommend!
On a weekday evening it was rather quiet so I got a drink at the bar and used that time to check my phone and chat up the super friendly bartenders. Good atmosphere, good music, good drinks!
Absolutely love this place! My friends and I popped in after a concert at the Ancienne Belgique. We had a great time. It’s very cute inside. Fun atmosphere. Great music. Truly the perfect spot to hang out with friends and meet new people. The owner, Benji was delightful. An absolute sweetheart. We had a great time chatting with him. Would 100% go back whenever we’re in town! Highly recommend!
