Looking for a hangout with a bit of history and a whole lotta character? Melitta Sundström in Kreuzberg is a Berlin institution, named after a local gospel-singing, activist, and trans icon. This cafe-bar isn't your flashy new spot, but that's kinda the point.
Step inside for a dose of faded romantic charm – think high ceilings, mismatched furniture, and a vibe that whispers "creative haven" rather than "chilled dance floor." Magazines pile up like forgotten friends, board games are scattered around for impromptu challenges, and the weekend-only upstairs lounge adds a touch of hidden gem mystery.
The crowd leans LGBTQ+, with a healthy mix of locals and those in the know. It's not just about drinks (although their cake selection is legendary) – Melitta Sundström regularly throws art exhibitions, cabaret nights, and comedy shows. So grab a drink, mingle with the friendly crew, and soak up the atmosphere – this is Berlin's LGBTQ+ scene with a generous helping of history and heart.
Horrible waiters who think they own the place and have the audacity to tell off their customers. Stay away if you wanna have a nice service and a night 🙂
Apparently a queer bar, loved the vibes the staff , the people in there. Felt very respected and welcomed from all the sides. Didn't know about the place before hand, was a blind shot and couldn't be happier.
Okay bar for the week days when it's empty. A "no-thanks" on the weekends. We went there (tbh, because it was the only place with free tables on a Saturday night), were sat by a very welcoming waiter, waited 30 minutes for two tap beers and left before they were on our table. There were three people working at the bar, chatting and having a lot of fun, doing one cocktail all together with clearly no rush, checking the three of them what music to play next, etc. Then I understood why there were tables free.I am not coming back and I recommend you to do the same.
Like this space. It had a bit of a group bar experience or maybe a little bit of a venue-y place where you could habe a band play, too.The bartenders that day were really cute and nice. I like my drinks.Bathrooms are far away and yes, they are one flight of stairs up and then another story up to the left through some wings doors.Edit on 2/9/23 to reply to the owner teplying to me: I really don't like the set up. The bathrooms are part of a different venue, right? I might be specific about this, and the bathroom looks cute (it is all gender, which is great!) but it is... well, not such a great bathroom in my opinion. The two sinks available are wonky and tiny and the water coming from them is as cold as ice. I am sorry that this is maybe only bathroom you have.Better than nothing. I definitely agree on that.
After a great time at Lollapalooza, we didn't want the party to end and walked around randomly until we found a bar that could deal with our group of 25+...
