Sue Ellen’s, located in the heart of Dallas' Oak Lawn district, is a cornerstone of the city’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene. Opened in 1989, it's Texas' oldest lesbian bar, a rare space dedicated to women and the broader queer community. Housed in a two-story building on Throckmorton Street, Sue Ellen’s offers a mix of vibes. Downstairs, you’ll find a lively dance floor and full-service bar, often buzzing with DJ sets and karaoke nights. Upstairs, a spacious patio provides a more laid-back setting to chat over drinks or enjoy live music performances.
Regular events like ""Sue’s Sirens,"" featuring drag and burlesque, keep the crowd entertained throughout the week, while Sundays are perfect for those seeking a more relaxed atmosphere with pool tables and arcade games. Sue Ellen’s has a reputation for being an inclusive and welcoming space—not just for lesbians but for all members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies. It also actively supports the community through partnerships with local nonprofits and hosting workshops. During Dallas Pride, the bar really comes alive, drawing large crowds looking to celebrate in a space that has maintained its place as a cultural and social hub for over three decades.
Thanks for not putting locks on the bathroom doors. I really enjoy using one hand to hold the door shut and my other hand to grab the toilet paper. I definitely wish more establishments did this. This is absolutely not weird, inconvenient, or annoying in the slightest. Thank you, Sue Ellen's, for providing an unforgettable night.
Great spot on a Thursday night for our crowd of conference folks from out of town. Cocktails under $10. Trivia was sadly cancelled due to weather but we enjoyed a rousing giant beer pong tournament instead, and karaoke. Staff and regulars showed Texas-sized hospitality- very welcoming and accommodating, and the place felt safe.
Charging $18.50 for a D'usse single when you can buy a 350 ml for $23 and a 750 ml for $45 at Total Wine is diabolical. The environment is fun but stop ripping off the community.@TOPRESTAURANTPICKS
The DJ's are horrible. They do not know how to mix songs together or transition correctly. It's a bunch of 2000's pop music only. Drinks are WAY overpriced, and my debit card ended up being copied by one of their payment machines, and someone thought they were going to have a GREAT time running up charges on my account.
I came from about 2 hours away to experience the Dallas Gay-borhood, and this was the number one place I wanted to see. The atmosphere is warm. Mary and the crew are extremely friendly, and I will miss them dearly. I hope to see them again soon. Special thank-you to Andrew and his friends who offered me a seat and talked with me for hours about anything and everything. I haven't really been to a bar before, and I don't think there was a better option for me than Sue Ellen's. Thank you again.
We saw 76th Street at Sue Ellen’s and loved the entire experience! Staff members were friendly. Plenty of space and different areas for seating, eating, drinking, dancing. Inside and outside options.
It was a really good time definitely a lesbian bar which I loved!! The music was really good not too much house mostly hip hop and rnb mixes... which i...
The atmosphere is great and people here are nice, but I've never gotten a good drink from here on a consistent basis. It really depends on the bartender. Also wishing that they had a bar munchies menu.
I absolutely loved it here!! I live in Houston and frequent another lesbian bar and I feel like the music at Sue Ellen's is better. The dance floor is...
I had so much fun here, and I love the vibe, everyone there is so friendly. I just moved to Dallas and finding this place made me feel more at home. But last night I was charged $40 for a $7 beer and $2 tip. From other reviews I've seen they ignore people's calls and emails, and it has happened multiple times with multiple bartenders. So they probably won't refund me. I'm shocked that Sue Ellens would alienate people by hiring bartenders who do this, I have never had a bartender take advantage of me like this before. I would have spent way more money here, but now I don't know if I can go here again after this happened. I spent $5 on the cover, and $10 to park next door in their lot too.
great crowd!! i came here around 10:30pm and there was no line. (line really starts forming at 11:30pm ish) there was a $5 entry fee and with that they let you come and go for the night. service was so friendly and there was lots to do here with pool tables, games, karaoke and dancing! drinks were also super affordable in comparison w other places, i just paid $7 for mine!
Dancing takes place here. LOL. The music has changed a bit over the years. Sometimes the music played on Friday night is not my thing but I did come in one night when they had karoke going and some line dancing got everyone on the floor. Great place for small events. Girls only.
My friends and I came to visit the gayborhood in Dallas. This is a pretty big place! A lot of room to roam around, people watch, and/or dance. It has an...
