About

The George, nestled on South Great George's Street in Dublin, has been a cornerstone of the city's LGBTQ+ scene since 1985. As one of Ireland's oldest and most renowned gay bars, it offers a welcoming space for both locals and visitors. The venue features two distinct areas: 'Bridie's Bar,' a cozy spot favored by an older crowd, and a lively club space that hosts regular drag performances and themed nights. Notable drag artists like Shirley Temple Bar, Veda, and Davina Devine frequently grace the stage, providing entertainment that ranges from karaoke to bingo sessions. Admission varies throughout the week, with free entry from Monday to Thursday, a €10 charge after 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and a €5 fee after 9 pm on Sundays.

Seven years ago, I walked into The George and met my future husband—so obviously, this place holds legendary status in my heart. Coming back felt like a time-traveling rom-com sequel (with slightly better shoes and slightly worse knees). But honestly? It still slaps. The vibe is just as electric, the music is still banging, and the crowd? A beautiful mix of chaos, glitter, and joy. What really stood out this time, though, was the staff. Absolute angels in black T-shirts. Friendly, welcoming, and totally cool—even when I, a seasoned 36-year-old adult, triumphantly paid for drinks with my watch like I’d just discovered fire. I half expected confetti. They were impressed. Or politely pretending to be. Either way, 10/10.It’s rare to return to a place that holds so many memories and have it feel just as special—but The George did it. It's still full of energy, love, and that “anything can happen tonight” feeling. Whether you're there to dance, reminisce, or show off your contactless wizardry, it delivers.Final verdict: 5 stars, one love story, and a bartender who now thinks I’m tech-savvy.

I use a walking stick and came for the first time and was very well accommodated for. The staff were super friendly and did what they could to make my visit comfortable in a packed out bar.

My friends and I come here pretty often, and I think this is one of the best nights out in Dublin! By far the best gay bar/club. There are multiple bars and the bartenders are all efficient and friendly. Music is always good. Outdoor space is comfortable and a great place to socialise/escape the noise inside for a moment. I have heard comments about people being rejected or turned away for no reason, but I have never been denied entry in a group of any size, nor have I seen them turn someone away without good reason. Of course, this is a gay bar, and while it’s not limited to LGBTQ guests, the bouncers take great care in making sure that the bar remains a safe space. I’ve found the bouncers to be friendly and good at their job, especially the lady with shorter grey hair and the man with the blonde hair tied in a bun.Come here for a great (and safe) night out!

It's really two spaces with different character. The pub side is mostly mature men enjoying a pint and chatter. Friendly, welcoming crowd. The club side is younger and mixed and often in groups with a stage and dance space. And you can move between the two in the early evening..after which there is an entry fee to the club.

Went here last night on a Monday. There was no wait to enter at about 11:30 pm with no entrance fee and it was decently busy inside. The inside is dynamic and has a fun layout with a stage you can dance on. The DJ was great. He played a good selection of old classics and new bangers and mixed them excellently. Was an over all great night and exceeded our expectations for a Monday.

I just arrived with 3 people including my brother who is celebrating his birthday. We come from Luxembourg and I often take them to gay bars or places but they couldn't get in. Security didn't really give a reason. He started by telling us that it was a gay bar and then finally told us that we couldn't get in. It's a shame, we were probably going to buy bottles but he clearly didn't want the group, and we assume that it's because there was a straight couple. It's sad to see this when we are fighting the same attitude in a society that is predominantly straight. I am very disappointed and therefore I don't recommend this bar.

I’ve been there many times and I’ve always been very well served by everyone. An incredible experience. There was a specific waiter who served me very well and his name is Roberto. Very friendly, polite and respectful. Thanks for all 🥳🫶🏼

On the 18.12.2024, a couple of my friends and I decided to head up to the George for a few drinks. Upon walking up to the door a male bouncer gave us a look and denied us entrance for absolutely no reason whatsoever and after asking him why he simply said ‘’Not tonight’’ and gave us absolutely no response when we asked him why? We were dressed appropriate, presented ourselves in a calm manner and experienced this upon walking up to the front door hoping to have a nice evening. I have been to the George a couple of times and had a great time but will refrain from going there from now on and recommending the place to other people. We felt discriminated against as there was no valid reason as to why we were refused and other individuals were being let go inside. Extremely disappointed and I hope nobody else has to experience this.

I recently visited The Gordon, and the experience was amazing! The place is beautifully decorated, the music is excellent, and the energy is fantastic, but what really stood out was the outstanding service provided by Tais. She was extremely attentive, friendly, and efficient, making sure everything was perfect during my visit. Professionals like her make the experience even more special. I highly recommend The Gordon for anyone looking for a memorable night in Dublin!

From the moment you are greeted at the door, The George always extends a warm welcome to its valued Patrons. Every night there is a different format of entertainment and the best of sounds till the wee hours. . . A wide variety of drinks and shots are available at affordable prices and they even have a designated cocktail bar. The courtyard is also a great place to meet and chat, or you can.pop into the original "George " bar for a pint with the regulars. . . . It's super safe, super clean and caters for a delighted clientele. I love it, the people that work there and the people that go there.

'LGBTQ+' & ' Straight' Bar & Club.Would highly recommend to any visitors to Dublin. This place is an absolute must for everybody! Bridie's bar in the George has become a regular haunt of mine due to the quality of clientele it attracts. I have never felt more welcome & safe in any pub or club anywhere. The absolute friendly professionalism of the door, bar, floor & management staff is second to none. Whatever you guys are doing, keep it up you are a credit to yourselves!

The music was too loud it hurt my ears and the drinks are expensive. I recommend stopping by the Spar supermarket next to it before entering. But overall it was a nice experience because I got buzzed

The bar staff are so friendly, cheerful and in good form. Lee, David, Niamh everyone really. The staff make it.There’s an older side bar called Bridie’s and there’s a younger main bar, nightclub, which is spacious but has limited seating. They don’t serve food.Overall I’d have to give it 5 stars though because of the staff.
