About

'WELCOMING GAY MEN FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD'

The Late Birds Lisbon is housed in a completely restored, late-18th century building with sixteen very comfortable climate-controlled rooms, lounge, beautiful garden and UV-treated swimming pool.

The idea was to "create an urban resort for the gay male community" located in the heart of Lisbon’s historical center, Bairro Alto and Principe Real, where all guests and their friends, men or women, are treated as part of the community.

The owners designed the Guesthouse to feel welcoming and comfortable, as though you are at home among friends. The decoration combines classical freshness with the contemporary look of Portuguese design. Some memories from the old building and owners' private pieces throughout the common areas provide a friendly atmosphere and a fine gathering place to enjoy socializing with the hosts and other Late Birds guests. The lounge, bar and garden are perfect spaces to celebrate birthdays, gay weddings and special events or just celebrate the warmth of being among friends.

As a Late Birds' guest, feel free to invite others to join you and be part of the Flock.

This hotel reminds you where enlies the magic of a boutique hotel. My biggest regret about staying here is that I didn’t have enough time to spend at the hotel! From the second you arrive, the staff make you feel at home. Francisco even took the time to walk me through all the amenities, introduce me to all the staff, and even greeted me by name for the duration of my stay. A big highlight for me especially as a single traveler was early afternoon after the poolside bar opened and other guests were lying out by the pool reading and sunbathing and sharing travel stories. Everyone was so friendly and from such different walks of life. The rooms are cozy yet timeless, and the air conditioning was a godsend during Summer in Lisbon. My room happened to have a skylight in the shower 😍I loved how airy the whole property felt, with unique touches of queer art and ample space to unwind and relax. Above all, the hotel is perfectly situated, with most of the notable gay bars anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes walking (even in Lisbon!). It’s also right off a main street with delicious restaurants, a pharmacy, access to the iconic Tram 28, and more! I cannot wait to stay again soon!

Rooms are ridiculously small and very basic, no tv, small space to hang clothes, and weirdly it has old Mac screen/ computer which doesn’t work! Don’t understand who nowadays use this! Waste of space in tiny room already! No elevators to the room, so you get to climb lots of stairs. The reception big , stylish and very homey!pool is very tiny! Maybe fits for max 4-5 people! Service is basic, staff is not really professional with right standard of hospitality! Which is surprising given the price and star ranking. Breakfast was ok, again it’s basic with no variety. The location is good, close to bars and restaurants and walkable. Overall not worth the money you pay! You can get much better options in Lisbon for the same value! Disappointing overall!

Amazing gay boutique hotel in the heart of Lisbon! The design is stunning, the rooms are small but have all that is required, and the common areas are homely and perfect to relax after a busy day exploring the city. We particularly enjoyed the warm welcome from the staff. We will definitely return, this time for longer!

If you are a member of the LGBT community and you are traveling on holiday or visiting for business this is the place you want to stay. They take very step to make this place feel like a cozy home away from home. The evenings feature a bar with a warm fireplace, mornings include free breakfast. It is in great location and makes it easy to walk to a lot of what the city has to offer. They also have a companion app that helps you find some of their favorite bars, restaurants and other establishments.

The main issue I had with them was: While sitting on their chair, the chair broke, exposing dangerous and sharp wood pieces (a big hazard!), which could have hurt me. Instead of caring for my well being and replacing the chair (like any reasonable hotel would do), they charged me € 100, which is by any means much more than you would pay for such a bad chair like that.Regardless, as I said, no other hotel would have charged anything. Would have firstly be worried about my well being and whether I got injured or not, and replaced the chair immediately.I was left with no chair for the rest of my stay!Other issues:* Old style wood only chair, instead of more comfortable office chairs (that will not break on you).* Badly designed bathroom will leak water outside of the shower and make the whole bathroom wet.* Small working desk, that already has a previous era Mac computer with no extra room to work or use your own laptop (and everyone has a laptop nowadays, so I don't see the point of having an old computer taking space there instead). The location is good and the front desk staff was nice. Although I see how they are limited in what they can do and are not responsible for working in a small hotel with bad administration.I suggest staying in a larger hotel instead.

I loved staying at the Late Birds in Lisbon during my vacation in July 2023. I stayed seven nights in a top floor room and had an incredible stay. I was traveling solo. The location is terrific, the rooms and building well designed, the staff super accommodating, the in-house massage was incredible, and the breakfasts were solid. Highly recommend and extend my gratitude to the team who made my stay super memorable. If stairs are a problem, the room at the top that I stayed in might not be suitable.

This hotel made our trip. The rooms are smartly designed and super stylish - very comfortable. The staff was great - very friendly and with lots of knowledge and recommendations on bars, restaurants, and things to do in the area. We had drinks at the hotel bar each night and kiki-ed with the staff and guests before going out. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Lisbon!

Just back from a three night stay and just want to echo what all the other reviews say - this place is superbThe hotel has a casual and comfortable guesthouse vibe - it’s small enough which is definitely a strength as it adds to the intimate community atmosphere which I think makes the place so special. It seemed to be popular with couples while I was there but I didn’t feel at all out of place as a solo traveller. It’s a great location beside Chiado and a perfect base to visit Lisbon’s major sights. Nice outdoor pool and sunbathing area complete with bar which is great to catch the sun though I didn’t get a chance to spend much time thereThe rooms are simple and stylish. If you’re used to staying at bigger hotels you might find them lacking some of the minor extras and flourish you’re used to, but I found mine very comfortable and having an iMac in the room is a nice touch! The breakfast buffet is again small but in terms of the quality of the food it was as good as any I had in any Portugese hotel if not betterWhat makes this place special though is the staff who at all times were so welcoming and obviously so committed to this being a safe space and haven for gay men in Lisbon. Special shout out to Ryan and Francisco who were both amazing in helping me find my way around and giving great recommendations. The hotel also offers specially arranged events guests can sign up for including a sunset cruise - unfortunately I didn’t get to try it due to sea conditions while I was there but it sounds spectacularI absolutely recommend staying here and am counting the days until I get the chance to come again!

I stayed here in October of 2022 on my last day in Lisbon. I wish I had started here because I fell in love with the place and the people.Loved the art on the wall! The room I had was big for Europe and everyone was very nice. There are also free range cats to enjoy.Pool looked inviting but I didn't indulge unfortunately.Don't forget to download the app.Going back this October (2023) for a few days.

The best gay hotel I’ve ever been to. Intimate, chic and fun. The friendliest staff you could hope for. The best pool in Lisbon. Cannot recommend it enough. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful space, wonderful location, friendly staff (and resident cats), and the pool is a real bonus. However, housekeeping was poor with only a change of towels and emptying of bins daily (no sweeping or vacuuming, changing of bed linen etc) and wifi in the hotel room virtually unusable. For $450 AUD a night I’d expect better.

This is our first time here and we couldn’t be happier. The staff is amazing and super kind, the space itself is beautiful with brand new interiors that are pretty spacious for Europe and very thoughtfully designed with a lot of storage… the outdoor space and pool are amazing!

Fantastic ! Stayed 5 nights, I 2 room types in July'23. The property has an awful lot going for it and should definitely be considered if you looking for a gay resort or hotel in Lisbon. Price was right firstly , very competitive I felt. The property is certainly boutique but doesn't cut aany corners, in fact quite the opposite. Location was excellent, hospitality and hosting from Carlos and Charles was superb, warm and welcoming without being intrusive. Breakfast was really good enough to set you up for the day, afternoon drinks around the pool was really a great way to meet others. Room finishes were modern and designer, beds super comfy, air-conditioning super cold . Overall I couldn't fault it and would definitely pay the lift suite another time , it's a beautiful room .

Husband and I stayed four nights and couldn’t ask for a better place to temporarily call home. Morning breakfast was delicious and the poolside retreat was a perfect place to ease into the evening. The staff are incredibly friendly and immediately felt like friends, provided top notch recommendations for sight seeing, restaurants, and night life. They put themselves into the hotel and it shows - including their childhood graphic novels in the restaurant library! We also appreciated evening programming like streaming Drag Race and performances. The sunset cruise was also a highlight. Thanks so much for the wonderful stay - will definitely be back.

It's hard to describe how wonderful our stay was at The Late Birds. The room and common areas were clean and beautiful, the breakfasts were delicious and the staff and owners were unbelievably welcoming and friendly. We made a lot of new friends and booked another stay for next year before the first one was even finished. If you are gay and planning a trip to Lisbon, this is where you need to stay.

Absolutely the best choice and what a difference staying at such a beautiful and friendly hotel made to our first time in Lisbon. The hotel is the perfect size to meet other guests and to enjoy the pool and bar area. The rooms and facilities are faultless and everyone there is so friendly, helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was really good too. Thank you to all who made our stay so memorable.

Highly recommend! The location is perfect and the owners along with their staff are professional and very helpful and still very fun. You really feel included with their activities as well including a boat ride or a night out. We appreciated the attention to detail in the building and rooms themselves which are all well done. Example includes the high quality windows that when closed, blocks out city noise very well. Will be back!

A place like this is more than a hotel, it is truly a second home. Possible only due to the proprietors and staff that clearly pour their heart and soul into nothing less than a perfect gift to the community. You can see this in the meticulous attention to detail throughout. We appreciate the great sacrifice it must take to maintain such a high standard. Thank you Late Birds for the excellent service, breakfast, atmosphere, and for providing a space that made my birthday a very memorable and special one.

My husband and I stayed at The Late Birds based on recommendations from friends. We went in with high expectations -- and all I can say is that our expectations were exceeded. The location is perfect. Central enough to everything you want but not overwhelmed by crowds of people walking by. The boutique nature of the hotel is a delightful combination of everything you would want. Wonderful breakfast, afternoon happy hour, help with different excursions. The rooms are brilliantly decorated and so spacious. And the staff is great. If we ever make it back to Lisbon we will be staying at The Late Birds again.

We stayed at The Late Birds as the first stop on our honeymoon in Portugal. It was the perfect starting point for our trip — the staff was super accommodating and friendly, as was the cat (I think named Mia) who lives in the hotel. The rooms are thoughtfully put together, while our room wasn't huge it was perfectly fine for our purposes. There's free breakfast and a gorgeous back area with a pool and bar that you should definitely take advantage of if you stay here, especially on weekends when they have a DJ out there. The location was perfect, very centrally located but not directly in the overcrowded tourist strips. Extremely walkable, we walked all over the city, but if you're not a big walker there are trains and streetcars all over the place.Would highly recommend this hotel to any LGBT travellers visiting Lisbon.

I had a mixed experience. I definitely enjoyed the resort ... Until I accidentally left my room key in my room one night. I came back expecting someone to be able to let me in, but there was no to help! I managed to get into the front door but was stuck sleeping on an uncomfortable chair until the morning shift arrived. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that you're left to fend for yourself when the staff leaves for the next. Instead of offering something like refunding a night or even just not charging for drinks, they did absolutely nothing and kept insisting I should've called a number they never provided me with.

Staff is so friendly and helpful, and room was very clean! When I had to cut short my stay they were very gracious. The neighborhood is very cute and right next to Bairro Alto and Principe Reale. Only potential downside is that there is no elevator, which may mean 4 or 5 flights of stairs if you are on one of the upper floors (I liked the exercise, but some people might not).

An oasis in Lisbon. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were treated like family. Every single member of the staff was so warm and genuine. They made us smile, we didn't want to leave, and we cannot wait to return. The design of the hotel is fantastic and we wanted to take the artwork on the walls home with us. Breakfast is a must. The best part is the backyard and pool area where we got to meet other like-minded travelers and make new friends. If you have an opportunity to stay here, don't think twice. Do it.

This is way better than just a place to stay. Besides the baseline of high quality of the rooms and service, the owner and employees are the friendliest sociable people I've ever experienced at a hotel. They also schedule events at the hotel like happy hours and dinners where the guests and invited friends can mingle and enjoy the beautiful hotel and courtyard. Plus there are two resident calicos that were a lovely surprise 🙂

Wonderful little oasis in the heart of Lisbon! Chic and authentic, this place hit all the right spots on our first (but definitely not last) trip to Lisbon. Rooms are small as in most European cities, but very comfortable. We had a shared balcony with 4 other rooms that overlooked the beautiful and peaceful courtyard/pool. The ability to have the door open, and to hear birds chirping, the trees swaying in the middle of a city was very tranquil after a long day exploring. The hosts and all staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our whole stay. This was the last leg of our week-long vacation in Portugal. My only wish is that we would’ve stayed here during the first leg in Lisbon because we were able to meet many new friends who were local or also staying at the hotel. Would absolutely stay here again!

Ask to see the Late Birds building plans album and you will immediately be impressed at how much work has gone into this establishment.Between them, this team of hosts serve up delicious home-made pastries, organic farm-fresh fruit and cut flowers, custom made cocktails, thoughtfulness, and a comfortable atmosphere of feeling right-at-home.We booked a top garden room, en suite. It wasn’t huge but had everything we needed – and more. Next time I’ll chose a terrace garden room for the added space of sunning myself on the balcony . It was still a bit too cold to swim but the option of a pool in such a central (and quiet at night) location makes this hotel an absolute gem.PS: if it’s on offer, I highly recommend their Supper Club evenings. The food was fantastic, and it was a great opportunity to meet other guests. Thanks for having us.D&W

What a special place—I am in love. I feel so lucky that I found this hotel. My favorite parts were:-the exquisite interior design-the fragrant jasmine in the back garden-playing the piano-the friendly staff and the friendly adorable cats-the orange juice freshly squeezed from their orchard-the clean rooms truly flooded with natural light-the small boutique nature (only 16 rooms!) means you feel at home-the central locationCarlos and his team accommodated me on a last-minute reservation, and went above and beyond to make my stay wonderful in every aspect. I would come back to Lisbon just to stay here.

This places follows an amazing concept of being gay-exclusive, centrally located and providing resort-features. Carlos and his team do an amazing spot by setting up this amazing space and making every guest feel welcome.Additional evening and lunch events plus their well curated tips provided in conversations or via their app make the stay even more unforgettable.

Excellent hotel, very nice/spacious/clean room (and quiet overnight), great location in the city (easy walking distances and/or public transportation allowing ready access to a wide range of attractions), SUPER friendly and VERY helpful staff, and several good common areas (including breakfast/snack area, bar, lounge and outdoor spaces). Just finished a five-night stay and- if ever planning to visit Lisbon again- will definitely start the lodging search with this establishment.

Late Birds Lisbon is a great little hotel right right next to the 28 Tram line and walking distance from shopping, restaurants and bars. The staff are exceptional. I visited shortly after Portugal opened for tourism and one night I was the sole guest in the hotel. The owner still insisted on putting on a full breakfast for his only guest, the night attendant happily opened the bar for a drink, and my room was spotless with plenty of fresh linens. Many of the rooms feature floor to ceiling doors that open on to a giant balcony overlooking the pool.My room had a few minor maintenance issues - most notably the shower needed new caulk, but I was staying shortly after tourism returned and I suspect this was simply something overlooked when things were closed.Late Birds Lisbon was significantly more expensive than similar quality hotels in the area. However, it caters to a specific clientele and I'm betting when it's fully booked the price is more than justified.

We stayed for 5 days at this place. We really enjoyed it, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel also has their own app. With this app you can find all the nice places in the neighbourhood. Also enjoy the nice cocktails at the bar. And in the morning get a good breakfast. We will definitely return here.
