The Wickham, nestled in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, has been a cornerstone of the city's LGBTQIA+ scene since the 1970s. Established in 1885, this heritage-listed venue underwent a significant $3.1 million renovation in 2023, blending its historic charm with modern flair.
The revamped beer garden is a highlight, featuring eclectic décor and a vibrant atmosphere. Patrons can enjoy live music, burlesque performances, and drag shows on the weather-proof stage, ensuring entertainment regardless of the weather.
Inside, The Peacock Room pays homage to the venue's iconic peacock, Frankie, with vintage furnishings and local artwork. Upstairs, The Garland Room hosts touring DJs and performers, offering a dynamic nightlife experience.
The menu caters to diverse tastes, featuring stone-baked pizzas, share plates like fried halloumi, and classic mains such as chicken parmigiana and chargrilled steaks. Vegetarian and vegan options are plentiful, and the dog-friendly policy includes a dedicated menu for canine companions.
Open seven days a week from 10 am until late, The Wickham continues to be a welcoming space for all, upholding its legacy as a proud supporter of Brisbane's LGBTQIA+ community.
The food is excellent here, you gotta try a BBC! Great atmosphere, delightful staff, awesome and varied events and diversity to cater for everyone! As well as being steeped in history, being oldest gay bar in Brisbane. The Wickham is a must visit destination!
I’m just your average shy Trans man who wanted to play the Pokies at a venue I could feel safe in. Great venue, good machines and the service was awesome. A massive Thank you to the beautiful lady behind the bar who noticed I was at one point feeling uncomfortable with another customer invading my personal space. you made my night and I will be back again ( even if just to say hi to you) Thank you!
I love The Wickham for their food, and the general atmosphere. I’ve come here to make the effort of leaving a review though due to not once, but twice now, being referred to as “ladies” and “girls”. One of these times, I was in the literal all gender bathroom. Venues like these should be safe havens and honestly know so much better. If my corporate workplace can do it, then so can you! I won’t be back. It’s so tiring and upsetting to deal with.
Dear Management,I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent experience at The Wickham. My visit, which I had hoped would be a pleasant one, was marred by terrible service and unprofessional, rude staff. I am appalled by the lack of basic food service knowledge, as well as the arrogance and dismissive attitude of the staff, which made me feel as though my concerns were entirely unwelcome. From the moment I arrived, the service was subpar. Despite there being plenty of available seating, we were left standing at the bar for several minutes without any acknowledgement. Despite not being particularly busy. When the food did eventually arrive, it was lukewarm at best, and not prepared to the standard one would expect from an establishment of your reputation. However, what truly disappointed me was the behavior of the staff. When I politely raised my concerns about the food, I was met with a dismissive response and an attitude that suggested my concerns were trivial. Rather than attempting to resolve the issue, the staff seemed more interested in belittling me. When I asked if there was any form of compensation, I was told "That's just how it is here" with no offer of any sort of apology or effort to make things right. As a paying customer, I found this behavior completely unacceptable. Not only was the quality of service and food far below expectation, but the lack of accountability and the refusal to offer even a small gesture of goodwill has left a sour taste in my mouth. I had high hopes for The Wickham, but this experience has completely undermined my confidence in the restaurant/bar.I trust you will take this complaint seriously and investigate the matter further. I believe some training on customer service, professionalism, and basic food handling might be in order. Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could consider offering some form of compensation for the unpleasant experience.Sincerely,Ryan15/01/2025
Matthew, the functions coordinator, was SO welcoming and easy to work with. He made planning so easy and enjoyable! They helped us make our function run so smoothly. All my guests had positive feedback and a great experience. I would highly recommend choosing the Wickham for an event!
We held our Christmas party at the Wickham and they truly went above and beyond. Matthew the functions manager was amazing, he was so accommodating, his communications was excellent and on the day, he and Nic our bartender made us feel so welcome. The food was so good, the perfect party snacks and the guys took delivery of our cake and presented and served it. If you're looking for a function venue that's great value for money with awesome customer service and a cool vibe, you can't go past Matt and the team at the Wickham.
Went for a Tuesday night so I didn’t expect the vibes to be huge. But very disappointed when we went for the $15 burger deal + $5 schooner as advertised on the website. Turns out that is no longer available allegedly due to “new menu” and was charged the full price of $32 which is still outrageously overpriced for a standard chicken burger. Might I suggest an update on the website to ensure current deals ?
Great service but the new food menu is very overpriced and disappointing. Paying $19 and getting more lettuce than popcorn cauliflower might be one of the most depressing experiences of my life. The photo attached is the entire serving. Won't be ordering food here again.
The Wickham is fantastic! Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. Wagyu burger was perfect, and the chips were divine. Drinks were reasonably priced too. Highly recommend!
Only been the once and the service was pretty average from the bar. The food service was fine though. The beer garden looked good and the general feel is quite good.Open to all and everyone but obviously has a speciality customer base but in no way did this vibe make anyone uncomfortable. And yes, in this era I was trying to make the point without offending anyone!
Now, this pub was really cool. It is basically one of those inner-city pubs that I absolutely adore. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I can actually fault...
Disclaimer: I've only been here twice. And only for the Pub Quiz on Thursday nights. That being said, they were 2 of my favorite and most memorable nights...
