Went here last night for the first time and the security at the door the attitude of them was just awful hardly let me am asked am I gay which was none of there business just judging me for no reason asking a question am I gay and asked for id and me in my mid 20s like all I wanted was to have a drink and enjoy the drag show the only positive was the drag show was really good and made up for it but I wouldn't return the door security have a awful attitude
Been going to this bar for many years enjoying the music and atmosphere, went here last night 21/12/24 which will be my last night to consider spending my money here. I was met by two power hungry aggressive door personnel, less searching goes on at border control, i asked why everything in my wallet needed to be gone through for which i got a rude reply, i should have refused and left but went in to have a drink with my best mate, but after entering we were so disgusted by our treatment we decided to leave without buying anything, and informing the door man that we will not be back because of his treatment. We went over to Mavericks across the road, with friendly door personnel and had a great night. So Union street bar this is how to piss off loyal customers.
Note to Unions Streets Security - bouncers are the first point of contact your customer encounters, making it essential for them to be welcoming, professional and approachable. You set the tone for the entire experience and your demeanor can greatly influence a customer's perception of the establishment. This weekend, you did a great disservice to one of Belfasts longest established LGBT venues. Profoundly disappointing.
Disappointing experience this weekend. And ive had a handful of experiences in this otherwise welcoming and fun venue this last year. The security, relatively new to the venue, were rude, abrupt and aggressive. Well, one female in particular, seemingly on a power trip and evidently didn't want to be there herself let alone us. Bah humbug.
After flying in to Belfast we decided to visit The Union Street Bar as we had been here a couple of years ago and had a great evening. However being a Sunday lunchtime it was very quiet with only a couple of other people drinking there. We ordered a few drinks and had a fun afternoon catching up with each other until, abruptly we were refused anything else to drink. The reason given was because the way one of our party walked back down the stairs from the toilet (This friend has a limp as he sustained an injury some years ago)!!It was a strange reason and not really justified, we left feeling disappointed and unwelcome and not a good start to a few days away in lovely Belfast.Nevertheless we will not be going back to this bar and cannot recommend it as a fun place to catch up with friends over a few drinks.Disappointing 😞
Visited from Galway for a lesbian hen, lovely vibe in the bar, the drag performers were great, fast service and the other customers were friendly too, everyone seemed to be having a great night! Will definitely visit again when I'm back in Belfast
I absolutely love this bar. Our friends and I always feel so welcome. Cocktails are fabulous, drinks are amazing (shout out Josh; our favourite barman!!). Union Street Bar rooftop garden is the best spot in Belfast
pretty nice vibes, loads of drink choice, fast service and bouncers were dead nice. also some random guy gave us some of his birthday cake so easily 5 starsedit: they also had really cool lamps and I want one
I could not have asked for more for my besties hen do than what the amazing staff and entertainers gave us in Union Street Bar! Was the best night and the CaberGay was so fun and hilarious!
I have been in this place multiple times, but since last Saturday it was definitely my last. I have no idea who managed the entertainment, (if anyone do) it was was poor. Its not the place I used to love to go.
After having given this bar a second chance I can without doubt, yet again confirm it was an awful experience, rude door staff and the bar staff are even worse. I’m not sure who is managing this bar but do better! Your reputation precedes you!
Bad customer service, we had to go to the bar to try to order our food. Otherwise, no one would approach us at the table. The food was OK, but my beef was almost like charcoal. The decoration is good, the reason I wanted to go there, but I haven't felt welcoming.
Was here a few weeks ago for a girls day, had our lunch which was lovely, ordered our drinks and every glass was stinking, another round stinking again, I ended up just using a straw from the tin. £6.20 for a tin of blue wkd is mental!! Considering you buy 4 tins for £4. Bar staff gone downhill bigtime no interest again paying £10 a cocktail no decor like last time (sugar around glass, coffee beans on espresso martini) bouncers need to lighten up, sour bakes!! Def wont return.
This place was great, kind staff members, healthy energy inside and outside. Ordered 14 chicken wings and a dirty fries. Chicken wings are full wings! So good. After food we went upstairs to chill in the roof bar.
Visiting from overseas, I found this place to be terrible. The doorman was rude and harassing my American friend, and the place was filthy and very odorous with no actual ventilation. The clientele look to be mostly overweight local women that need sun and ozempic. No diversity and open hostility to tourists. Never again. We went across the street and had a very nice time.
We went last night as part of a gay stag. And we were not allowed in, the reason being that it was a stag yet there was other stags and hens, most of which were straight people. We will not be letting this issue go. We felt it was very homophobic and one of the bouncers actually agreed when I said that it felt homophobic. Seriously need to learn how to treat people with the respect and freedom the community fought for years to get. Will not be returning and will be making this ordeal very public to people for the future to stay away from these establishments
Pre booked meal and show at Union Street bar for a hen party of 13! What an amazing night, the hen and the rest of us had the best time… won’t forget our visit in a hurry 😄
On 15 th April we hire the roof top bar in union street for a private Birthday and what. a find .We couldn’t of ask for a better spot had a brilliant night and the staff there where fantastic.❤️❤️❤️ Would recommend for private party 🎉
My husband and I entered the Union Bar, and security simply stopped him and prevented him from entering for no apparent reason. I don't know if it's because he had a backpack, but we did absolutely nothing wrong, we just walked in and within 5 seconds the security guard kicked him out of nowhere. We just wanted a minimally decent place to drink, so I don't recommend this bar to anyone.

Sadly as is the case with a few other bars in the area. One of the bouncers was extremely sectarian and after coming from the parade aggressively told us to throw our small flag in the bin on St Patrick’s Day at a themed St Patrick’s Day event with almost everyone carrying/wearing flags 😂 basically spoke to us like we were scum, so unnecessary. Was happy to not bring this in if this was against the rules but the attitude was so unnecessary. The drag queens and bar staff were super nice inside however, I just think most of the security in this area hate everyone as I’ve never had any pleasant experiences with any bouncer in this area.
Agressive and discriminating door staff. The amount of bad reviews this place has you would think the management would make a change. Refused my foreign friend and said "only locals allowed!"
DON'T GO HERE IF YOU'RE DISABLED!!!every time I've went to this bar I've been kicked out for my motor skill disability. They, never believe me when I exain my disability. Just once I want to be treated like a human being, but it is astoundingly clear I'll never recieve this treatment here. Never in my life have I experienced abelism like I have here. This bar is not friendly to disabled people.
Arrived to this bar yesterday for my sons 18th birthday and it didn't dissappoint absolutely fantastic night from start to finish. Excellent bar staff (apart from Josh) only joking amazing food and the stunning drag Queens absolutely brilliant I will definitely be back xxx Thank you everyone for a brilliant night

I normally don’t go to Union Bar due to previous experiences with bad customer service. Tonight, I tried ordering a drink at the bar, possibly midway during the drag show, and I was asked to move down the bar to order directly from the bar person. Union Bar was pretty busy on the customer side of the bar. While moving down the bar, I bumped into two women, much to their annoyance. I said to the bar person, “I think it would have been easier for you to come to me, rather than me come to you,“ which I think they took issue with.I appreciate a colleague was “cleaning the bar”, but it was just spraying the beer tray. The service can be bad. And sadly, not my first time. Hospitality goes a long way. Less sass also goes a very long way.
Visiting Belfast. Great place!Unfortunately, a regrettable situation with a Barman has destroy our visit. Left my (paid) beer and went away for the Maverick.

Horrible evening.I ordered food which was cold and had a portion of chips with someone else's half eaten chicken at the bottom.I politely asked the dj "sorry to bother you but do you take requests as I'm leaving and want to play a song for my friend" security we're instantly on top of me and the dj was incredibly rude. I would understand if I had caused trouble or something but I had been sitting respectfully watching the show all evening.Rude staff and over zealous security really put q dampner on my night and left me feeling very uncomfortable in what is meant to be a safe space. Some bar staff and the performs were incredible and I cannot fault them bur personally I don't think I'll be back.
If you're booking a hen party - this place should be top of your list!! Staff were incredibly helpful when organising for a party of 20 (special mention to John and Darren!) Great atmosphere, great entertainment, lovely staff. 100% recommended x
Poor hospitality,it lacks in customer service. And staff very unfriendly, and not very welcoming.A smile goes a long way. This bar in belfast, not what it used to be especially in union bar. "APPALLING". I'm glad we don't come into the city that often.Atmosphere, isn't good.No air conditioning its stuffy and body odour and unhygienic bar and glasses to drink out of. And toilets stinking of urine and urine over the floor and toilet seat ect.And no hand soap or hand gel or toilet roll, obviously not being checked regularly.Staff and particularly the bouchers not very friendly, they stare at you.Very intimidating indeed, lots of women and straights 95%.All the old faces from before not to be seen anywhere,I wounder why? 🤔Anyone thinking of visiting here, unless you know someone I wouldn't bother. We thought we'd come to visit to see if any improvements but "NO" very disappointed.Over priced for drinks.Don't think we will be back.I see them closing in the foreseeable.
Recently had lunch here and really enjoyed it! They were short staffed but this didn’t affect the service or experience at all. The food and cocktails were beautiful. Would highly recommend
Awfull experience. Extremely rude door staff and bar staff. Very overpriced drinks ..one rule for visitors another fir locals. Long time to get drinks even when you always have to pay first.
Union street is such a good vibe, if you want a quiet dinner go to the green room, a comedy or drag show shoe factory or just good tunes and to drink cocktails, the roof. We ordered salted caramel espresso martini's, Connor with the mullet made them and they were out-standing.... fing excellent. Amazing service from bouncers and staff and great crack all round. Will be back and highly recommend.
Love here & love the food, great service and had a ball with the servers when here last time. Even with restrictions in place and table service only there is still a great atmosphere here.
From the moment I walked in the bouncer just kept staring at me the entire time. I went to the toilet for like 5 minutes, and they were trying to take my drinks that I had just bought. Poor service, and considering the amount of money I spent I could have been treated better. Whoever the bouncer is he's a total authoritarian bully.
We were in at the weekend and it was amazing from start to finish! Food was absolutely UNREAL and the service was so fast and professional! We will definitely be back!!
I'm sorry completely ridiculous "We dont Care policies" against people with disabilities. They may think their policy is fun, I personally believe places like these need to be boycotted
Roof garden is totally A,fun, funky vibe and very helpful bar staff! Nice decor on all levels.Menu looks good also. Various platos to suit all palates....
