Vela, nestled in Copenhagen’s lively Vesterbro district, is the city’s only exclusively lesbian bar, and it’s got a reputation for being one of the coolest spots in town. A welcoming haven for women, it’s the go-to spot for anyone looking to experience the vibrant LGBTQ+ scene. With its laid-back vibe, Vela is perfect for grabbing a beer, shooting pool, or getting lost in dance beats that keep the party going well into the night.
The venue regularly hosts eclectic events, from quiz nights to poetry readings, and even speed dating. If live music or DJ sets are your thing, you’ll find plenty of energy to keep the night young. The crowd is predominantly lesbians and bisexual women in their 20s and 30s, but Vela’s doors are open to anyone who’s ready to have a good time. It’s intimate yet buzzing, and the place to be if you want to dance, drink, and meet new people in a safe, inclusive environment.
Located at 2-4 Viktoriagade, this little gem in Copenhagen is all about good vibes and embracing queer culture to the fullest.
At Vela, we danced all night with Copenhagen’s dykes n’ queers. When the owner learned that my girlfriend is Brazilian, she insisted on putting some Brazilian music on the playlist. It was hilarious to watch Danes frightened off the dance floor by the sounds of baile funk, but the few who stuck around dropped their butts to the grimy, beerslicked floor. At Vela, I saw one of the drunkest women I’ve yet beheld, a lumbering blonde who was playing a strange and kinky game with a cute brunette in which the brunette invited the blonde in for a kiss, only to coyly, gently shove her away just before contact. When after several rounds the brunette finally let herself be kissed, the blonde was so gobsmacked that she fell to the ground like a tree beneath a lumberjack’s axe. She lay in a puddle of booze, staring up, eyes wide, her face lit with wonder and surprise at her good fortune.
Absolutely amazing little bar, the owner is very friendly and will happily chit chat with you!The lovely owner speaks English very well and so as tourists we felt very comfortable and welcomed. Epic taste in dance music too!
I wouldn't exaggarate if I say: It's worth to come to Copenhagen just to come to Vela;) Amazing people, warm atmosphere, good drinks and devoted, hardworking stuff. Music? Today they started with Britney and more music from 00s and 10s ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Safe space, all are welcome. Great that LBTQ+ women have this space! It is more a pub than a club as everyone is sitting. It is true that one if the waitresses could be nicer...
was visiting from the US and a friend brought me here with my partner. felt very welcoming and explicitly lesbian and trans inclusive. you can tell they work to prioritize the safety of queer people, especially women. very nice vibe. a cozy spot to grab a drink especially if you're not into the bigger (and mostly cis man) club scene.
Super nice bar, mainly and firstly for queer women, but felt very safe and welcoming to anyone who's keeping things consensual and respectful. Cocktails and shots are nice, dj set keeps the vibe going, fussball table is a nice addition too! Lots of attention to being a safe, openminded and respectful environment for everyone. Loved being here, had a great night out, thanks for having us! Cheers from the Netherlands! 🏳️🌈🇳🇱
Fear not, gentle readers... this place was open when I went. Not sure what was going on with some of the other reviews. Decent price drinks for area. Nothing fancy, but that's fine 🙂. Brand new bartender didn't know how to make any drinks without help from owner, but hey there's a first day for everyone 😉. Good conversations all around.
Vela is a LGBTQ+ bar in Copenhagen, that is welcoming towards everyone. Super great to have a place that is majority women. They play great music and have affordable beers.
