I recently stayed at Axel Hotel Maspalomas. Overall, the stay was pleasant, but the property shows significant signs of aging and it's evident that no renovation activities have been undertaken. The rooms are a bit outdated. The gym is good, but it is quite shocking and unheard of that no water is available there. On the positive side, the pool service is very efficient and the reception is excellent.

Nothing like Axel hotels in Madrid or Barcelona, this Axel feels like a converted municipal office building or multi level car park. Nice pool area, basic gym and walking distance to Yumbo centre the really good things about this Axel are its location and pool area. The young staff are courteous, good to look at but not attentive. The event not to miss is the pool party BBQ on Saturdays. A perfectly reasonable hotel but no frills or care for aesthetics.

Me and my family are just back from Gran Canaria. We had a wonderful time. We recommend highly our stay in Axel Beach. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely atmosphere, staff especially Kevin and all who work here. Cleaning staff are brilliant, ye are lucky to have them. Pool area so relaxing and not crowded at all, always found a sun lounger. Also loved the little seats in the shaded area when shade was needed. No problem with keeping our luggage due to flight time in the evening. Thanks for everything. We will be back. Continued successCaitríona & family (Ireland)

Myself and my partner stayed here for a week. We felt so welcomed and all the staff were extremely friendly. The environment is brilliant and relaxing at the same time. Our room was always absolutely spotless. After reading reviews that it’s targeted towards “ men” I can say this is further from the truth, everyone is made to feel welcome, regardless of gender or sexuality.Really close to everything, including the Yumbo being 5 minutes walk and beach being 15 minutes. Kevin was helpful from the minute we arrived till the minute we left. Honestly couldn’t recommend more. We will definitely be back at some point!

I regret to inform you that my recent stay at the apartment was quite disappointing. The overall cleanliness of the apartment left much to be desired, with basic culinary items in poor condition. Additionally, the balcony was inaccessible and had an unbearable smell, likely due to inappropriate use by a previous occupant. It was evident that the staff did not adequately clean the apartment, leading to these unsatisfactory conditions. Furthermore, my interactions with the male staff member at reception were far from pleasant. His demeanor was unpleasant and arrogant when addressing the issues with the room, making the situation even more challenging to handle. While the lady at the front desk was friendly and accommodating, the behavior of the male staff member was unacceptable. Overall, my experience at this hotel was riddled with various issues that should have been addressed more effectively. It is concerning that such substandard conditions and unprofessional behavior were observed, particularly from a staff member at the front desk. I hope that the management takes these concerns seriously and implements necessary improvements to ensure a more positive guest experience in the future.

Loved staying here. Brilliant central location so close to Yumbo. Staff are really friendly, Kevin particularly but all on reception are kind, welcoming and helpful. The atmosphere is great, rooms are good size and there’s a nice pool and jacuzzi with different bed and bathing options. I’d definitely go back

I live nearby and I often visit friends who are staying in the hotel as a guest. My friends love it at Axel Beach and they stay there at least four times a year. If I stay for lunch I usually have their orange and goat's cheese salad which is delicious. There is also a poolside bar and lovely big pool. It is mainly Gay but is Hetero-friendly

Good: The hotel is a bit dated but ok. The rooms have good air conditioning and the cleaning staff is dedicated and kind.Bad: One older staff member at the sky bar randomly charges when you pay with card. I paid for a beer 6 euro it costs 4.80, Americano (not on the menu usually costs the same as espresso) I paid 2.00, 2.20, 2.30. I don’t mind giving tips but I would recommend you check your bill.Spa: the hot tub is an ice tub.

I couldn’t finish my holiday without writing this compliment about that amazing hotel ! The location is the best in maspalomas , only 5 mins by walk to yumbo center and 20 mins to the beach . It’s in the center of playa de ingles . The rooms are literally an apartment , big , clean , and there’s a nice balcony to smoke and relax. The staff was so friendly , so kind to help in every question . The spa area is great and it’s legal being naked there. I’d such an amazing stay on this hotel! Super recommended .

Advantages:The location of the hotel near Yumbo is very central. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and the room cleaning was satisfactory.Disadvantages:The use of the safe is associated with an additional fee of 3 euros per day. It is natural for me to use the safe in order to not accuse the cleaning staff or other employees of the hotel if something is stolen. The rooms have a kitchenette. The refrigerator was not properly clean. The minibar was too full; we had to empty it completely. Dishes and cutlery were available. At check-out, they wanted to charge us for the cleaning products provided in the kitchen. I declined that, as well as the cost for the safe. The prices at the SkyBar, which doesn't make sense as it is located on the ground floor, are very high. A draft beer costs 5.20 euros on normal days. Parties at the hotel cost from 6.00 euros. The sunbeds are not included in the hotel price. On normal days, they charge 30/50 euros and on party days, 200.00 euros, including a bottle of vodka and 12 soft drinks. These prices are completely excessive. The hotel urgently needs renovation. New light strips, sockets, new grouting in the bathroom, curtains. The entry ladder in the pool should be repaired, it was loose. If the concept is completely redesigned, then I would book it again, as you quickly meet new people.

I had an incredible stay at this remarkable hotel, perfectly situated for convenience. A huge shoutout to Daniel for his warm welcome even at midnight, ensuring I felt right at home and providing thorough guidance on all the amenities. The morning crew, Kevin, Dani, Carmen, and Dayanna, were equally delightful, making my check-out process a breeze with their friendliness. Without a doubt, I'll be returning to this hotel in the future. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is the second time we've come to Axel, and once again we leave happy and eager to return! Compared to the first time, the rooms and the gym are completely renovated and look great! But what always makes us choose Axel is the human talent! From Daniel at reception, Luis at the bar, and the most fun interactive DJ we've ever seen, DJ Lucky, make it an unparalleled destination! Surely we'll see you again very soon! Thank you so much!

Been on holiday to Maspalomas many times for the past 20 years, and this is my second time at Axel; we came here in April 2018 and not much has changed as far as I can tell; the rooms have been refreshed a little.Pros: Decent amount of sun beds around the pool, with a good layout with full sun practically all day with no need to move around like you do at other hotels like Playa Del Sol;Air con in the rooms which means windows and doors can stay closed, reduced noise, and a better night’s sleep;Gym is better than most hotel gyms in the area, although would benefit from more bar plates as there is only one pair of 20kg, 10kg, 5kg, and 2.5kg weights. Also the weight pin on the cable machine is missing and you have to use the one on the pull down machine, so long as no one is using it;It was very quiet at night and we slept fantastically; The hotel is clean and in a decent condition (I.e. not falling to bits, no mould, stains, or anything noted in our room at all);Friendly and helpful staff throughout.Cons: Nowhere near enough space for clothing in the room for 2 people. Maybe add some more shelves, drawers and/or hangers in the wardrobe space (?).The pool is very cold, this is where Playa Del Sol stands out as they have a heated pool. Probably why not many people used it;The ‘English breakfast’ was awful, it was so anaemic too. I’m not sure if it was vegan bacon, but it was NOT bacon, it was like reconstituted turkey or something, and the sausage was the same consistency as a tinned hot dog (but thicker) - also it was expensive when compared to somewhere like Windsor Garden in the yumbo where the food is better and almost half the price!Another thing worth noting is the atmosphere around the pool (neither a pro/con depending on what you prefer): in the week and in the morning / early afternoon it is fairly quiet and the music is 70s-00s, although in the later afternoon the music becomes more contemporary. Then at the weekend the place basically turns into an outdoor gay bar with pool parties by DJ Lucky who calls everyone ‘baby’ and wants to know whether you are gay, straight, bi, and top, bottom, or versatile if you take part in any of the day’s games or activities - although you can scan the QR code to request songs via WhatsApp, and the music isn’t too bad. Huge water guns are handed out, coupled with the copious amount of free shots, is not conducive to a relaxing afternoon in the sun. So if you prefer a quieter life you might want to go to the beach on those days, as there’s no alternative quiet area in the hotel.Carmen was very helpful to us, allowing a room extension by 2 hours even though the hotel was completely full, which was appreciated. I would personally come back to this hotel again.

The rooms look a little dated, but don’t let that put you off. The hotel is good, and a great location for the Yumbo, if a little out the way. The best bit is the pool area with the cabana beds. Especially when there’s a pool party on!

Me and my mum booked a week here for my 30th birthday. It appealed to us both as it looks stunning and is friendly no matter what your sexuality. However, from the time you arrive and see the posters outside featuring half naked men and then the sex aids for sale in reception - it’s clear this hotel caters mainly for men and this is from a bisexual woman’s point of view 🤦🏼‍♀️The rooms are pretty basic, but there’s no where for you to sit and do your makeup or hair. The sofa is what appears to be “wipe clean” and the bathroom needs a good redecorating. The pool area is lush however probably best not to venture into the jacuzzi, a few of the guys told me this so I stayed clear 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤯🤯The little huts by the pool are available to rent for €30 - €50 a day however be warned that if there is an event on the price of these triples aswell as drink prices from the bar too!Overall, I wouldn’t come back to this hotel due to it being predominantly male but playa del Inglés is beautiful to visit especially if you’re like me and part of the lgbt family!

Great, happy place with big pool to make friends - calm, no children.I didn't know what to expect from a gay hotel, but our visit was great. We made actual friends by the pool, everyone was really friendly, all kinds of body types/ages/nationalities are hanging out together. On Saturdays there's a small afternoon dj-party for a few hours, the rest of the time it was calm. The gym was simple but fine, lunch was affordable and good.Staff were amazing. From the front desk (Carmen, Daniel) to the bar (Luis) and even housekeeping (Begonia): everyone was super friendly. I mean how often do you remember hotel staff by their name?We felt very welcome.Oh and NO CHILDREN in this hotel, which is such a dream.

Second time staying at Axel and it was even better than the first! Starting with the staff- CARMEN, the Queen of Axel, nothing is too much trouble, with lovely Alvard & Kevin too! Thank you! The bar staff (awesome cocktails) and the cleaners! Especially on floor 2- Spotless.Rooms are large, huge comfortable bed & hot powerful shower, most important things to me! Mine was the corner pool view- lovely! Yes some of the other parts may he more dated than other places, its great value for money. The hot tub in the sun is bliss, along with the sauna & steam. Enough sun loungers for all, shame the large pool isn’t warm, the only real downside- but pretty much all on the island are cold! Friendly other customers from all over Europe; great pool vibes which is important too.Location really close to everything, especially the Yumbo! Easy cut throughs from yumbo to the street where the hotel is.Great stay again, thanks Axel. See you again soon xx

Enjoyed a week from 20th to 28th FebA big thumbs up for Kevin, so helpful and nothing was a bother.I can't say the same for the younger receptionist. Bad attitude, body language was shocking whilst trying to deal with my issue The issue was that for 3 days I had been trying to get a massage booked to which was next to impossible. I was told to go to my room and wait to be contacted. 4 hours later still no call. When I questioned this the young rude male receptionist told me to go back to my room and he would call me. After explaining that I did this the previous day he snapped and snarled.Been coming to Axel Beach since 2018 and after covid and never expericend this before. Always pleasant staff but this one really needs to remember customer service is key in these times.Housekeeping team all amazing and throughly cleaned and maintained a high standard all round.Booked again for September so let's hope your younger male receptionist has been properly trained..if still thereSee you again in September 👌

We had an amazing holiday here the staff were very helpful and friendly, no extra charges which other people have mentioned. There was a mini bar in the fridge which we asked to be emptied due to us staying there for 11 night and want to use the full fridge the staff emptied it within minutes. We also asked for extra pillows and a kettle and this was provided with no issuesThe rooms and the hotel could do with a freshen up but apart from that everything was perfect Thank you Axel Beach we will be back again 😀

Decrepit and sad hotel not worthy of the Axel brand. The hotel does not have a single piece of art (queer or otherwise) anywhere, it's just bland. The walls and ceilings are cracked, the bathrooms are moldy, the sauna and steam room are disgusting, the pool loungers are sun backed and past usable, the mattresses are ancient and uncomfortable...The hotel ran out of bath towels AND pool towels several days in a row. When we managed to get some, they were so frayed that any decent hotel would be ashamed of giving them to guests...Definitely a let down compared to other Axel hotels. So sad and disappointed in the whole experience

I spontaneously booked this hotel after my initial plans fell through, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. The pool was fantastic, and the room was spacious and comfortable. A huge shoutout to Alvaro for helping me organize excursions and providing excellent local recommendations, and to Carmen for making me feel so welcome throughout my stay!I love the hotel's claim - "We are Heterofriendly" - but I would love to see more diversity in their marketing campaigns. The visuals predominantly feature white, six-pack guys, which doesn't accurately represent the diverse guests at the hotel. Including a wider range of people in their marketing materials would make individuals like myself feel more included and encourage us to book with confidence.Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would love to return, perhaps to explore other cities like Barcelona!

Not as well maintained as the other Axel hotels. The pool and lounge/outdoor bar area are fantastic though. And it's literally just across the road to the Yumbo Centre and all the enchantments it has to offer 😜Plus, the staff are cute. The door handle signs sums it all up best 😁

Overrated, expensive and low quality standards. The rooms are large but very old fashioned and the windows/doors are windy. There is also a lot of noise & an uncomfortable bed. The staff is quite nice and friendly. The pool area is ok but all the lovely double beds in the pictures have an extra charge of €50 per day. You also have to pay for the safe and other standards separately. Overall, one of the most expensive hotels we've ever stayed in, but not worth it. The location is 30 minutes walk from the beach but close to the Yumbo Center.

I stayed in Axel Beach last year. Mostly, I loved it: good location, friendly staff. However, when I left, I settled my bill (of course). Two days later, a charge appeared for items I did not use/eat. It took some time to sort this out, I'm afraid, even though I had, as I've said, settled the bill. It was a great shame. I go to Gran Canaria 3 or 4 times a year. Had it not been for that, I would have been back in Axel Beach every time. Now, nothing would convince me to return. A great pity, because otherwise it was good. Rooms were sizeable, Saturday poolside entertainment was excellent. Advice: DON'T GIVE THEM CREDIT CARD DETAILS when you check in. Double check all bills very carefully, EVEN up to a week after you have left in case they charge you in "human error" too.

Very well located hotel close to the Yumbo so very convenient for a night out and shopping. The hotel has nice facilities including a well equipped gym and a spa area. The staff are very helpful. Compliments to the excellent housekeeping team who were so friendly and helpful during my stay. I would definitely recommend as a chilled out adults only hotel close to all facilities 😜

Been going to GC for 8 years and decided to try Axel. Booked a garden view room. Thought it would be quieter than road side or pool side.Never again. Over priced and over rated. Beware of extra costs.. u even have to pay if you use the washing up liquid.. I requested mini bar etc be removed from room.. no temptation.Constant loud annoying music in pool area during day.No quiet places to relax. Even on balcony u could hear it.Place is quiet at night. Was in room 3 days before it was cleaned. I had to ask at reception. Room was a little tired although bed was comfortable.Could do with more hanging storage space for clothes.People seem to like it here it definitely wasn't for me.Maybe I'm just to old .

For the price and reputation I expected the rooms to be a lot nicer. The flooring and walls looked new but the sinks and shower look dilapidated and haphazard. The stonework around the shower base was covered in fractures where you could see mould setting in. And the kitchen tap was either the wrong kind of tap or was on the wrong way round, or both. But it was very confusing to operate.Very friendly and welcoming staff

Amazing hotel that had everything on offer and some super friendly helpful staff. In particular the reception team were the best, and a personal thank you to Alvaro, Kevin, Pancho, Daniel, Dayana, and Carmen. Our stay was hassle free and so thankful we could still use the pool etc once we had checked out and awaiting our flight home. Will book again and we appreciate our room upgrade so much - thank you!

I’ve been to Gran Can 8 times and stayed in 4 different hotels. Playa Del Sol had always been my go to, but after staying at the Axel it would now be my first choice. ALL of the staff are so friendly and nothing is too. Much trouble. The reception staff greeted you with a smile every time and the housekeeping staff were always so accommodating with times etc. The pool was clean and the bar staff were efficient and friendly. The hotel itself is quiet at night we always felt secure. Can’t recommend it enough as a safe, clean space whoever you are. Checking out this afternoon, but will definitely be back next year.

The hotel is very modern, clean and comfortable. The room we had was spacious and as there were three of us we certainly had enough room. The room was well stocked too if you wanted to cook for yourself. It has a great pool too, and even on the pool party day we still had space to move about. The staff were amazing, they took their time with us and made sure we had all we needed and were really attentive. A special nod to Rayco, Kevin, Cristian, Diana and Carmen for helping us out.

Our stay was going well until non-resident guests in their 20s joined the Sunday 3PM party. The place went from classy to trashy. Rooms need some updates and they need to be generous with toiletries (for two guests, can’t go through the day with just one soap, one shower gel and one shampoo). Besides that, good value for the money. Personnel is attentive.
