This is our 4th year coming up to Casa Cupula while we are in PV. We come to the pool here because the service is outstanding and very attentive. They treat us like family and are very welcoming. They always have a table ready for us during the pool parties. Lalo is just fantastic and the staff always take care of us! Shout out to the servers Noel, Miguel, Paul & Eduardo! Thank you for making our vacation special and memorable! We will always return!!
Stayed at Cupula For 10 days and the facility was nice, clean and seemingly well maintained. The rooms were large and a decent selection whether you want it to be in the middle of the action or somewhat away from the noise. However, they fell short on service on several different aspects. The pool was closed twice for a full day once was for an employee party once was for decorating for a paid event. In my opinion both could’ve been done in other ways not to inconvenience the paying guests. To make things easier for me I use them to schedule my transfers, which came at a premium. Details were lost and not followed up on. My opinion seek out transfers or rides in other ways. The facility is located somewhat away from the city center and the ocean up on a hill. Geographically it’s not far however it is quite a walk including many stairs. Not really conducive for less mobile people or people who don’t want to walk for whatever reason. When asking for them for a bit of personal service, it seems the standard answer is no although they referred to themselves as a boutique Hotel. They call themselves clothing optional however I would consider “clothing optional light” as the resort is not fully clothing optional. It is very limited on where you can be nude And events can be held with mixed genders where Which caused nudity to be restricted outside the immediate pool area. Other than the main pool area, there are signs posted everywhere that bathing suits are required. Most of the action is from locals or other people from other hotels coming in. Which leads me to believe that most rooms are left of vacant. Which just restricts the social aspect for most of the time that you’re there. The gym was small it adequate for most needs. It just has the basics which was OK for a short period of time. They have three pools one large two very small As well as one Jacuzzi. Only the large one is heated So the infinity pool on the roof can be a little chilly at night restricting the use when you think you would use it most. Did you have food on site which was adequate nothing stellar. Food potions were fine. Expanded options would be nice since you are somewhat remote.
We came here twice because our first experience was not great due to being charged for things we were not told about and our waiter was very rude when we were upset about the extra charges. Came back and experienced almost exactly the same thing the second time. Super disappointing as the atmosphere and clientele are nice and friendly. Staff needs a complete overhaul they will overcharge you and argue with you when you defend yourself. We even made sure to tip each individual waiter separately to ensure we were being treated well. I will say the owner was very nice and friendly and seemed great, the waiters not so much! Will not be giving it a third try after this. Also they have signs that say if you tag them you will get a free drink which is super hilarious cause when we mentioned that they basically scoffed at us.Edit: as you can see by the response this is not a great place! Instead of being mad be better how about?
I've stayed here twice and it's definitely my go to spot when visiting PV. The staff are incredible. They're friendly and super helpful. The rooms are quite nice, and I love the location. It really feels like you're up in the jungle (just barely) with tropical birds as an alarm clock. The pool area has incredible views, and if you stay for a few days you'll find plenty of quiet time mixed in with their busy pool parties. The minibar was also thoughtfully stocked with plenty of normal options plus gatorade if you wake up feeling it from a late night out. Walking down to the pier is short but steep, less than 10mins. There's a pharmacy and Oxxo nearby as well. Best to uber back at night, but it works out to like $3 US from zona romantica.I did have a minor maintenance issue and they were on it in under 5 mins. The service is what sets Casa Cupula apart. Well, that and the infamous pool parties of course.
This was my second visit to Casa Cupula. The first one was 8 years ago and it was a great time. This visit not so much. I arrived in the afternoon on a Monday and decided to go immediately to the main pool for a drink and a bite to eat. There were 2 other guests there and 5 people working. I ordered an overpriced margarita and nachos. I waited 35 minutes for the nachos even though no one else was there. No apologies and was basically ignored by the arrogant staff. The room was nice, however, the sound on the tv was not working. Now, I did not go to Mexico to watch tv but like it when I go to bed. 4 days in a row I reached out to the concierge and front desk. 4 times, I was told that someone would come and take a look at it. No one did. Upon check out, the person at the front desk did apologize but that was it. I wrote to the hotel and got a lack luster response and still not really an apology.Beyond all of this, I wanted to go to the main pool one night. It was closed for a private event. While I appreciate that this is a business, I would have appreciated knowing prior to my stay as this was the one night reserved for my time at the resort. All and all, I will not stay here again. The prices were high, the staff aloof and stuck up, and the concierge and front desk unresponsive to the solving issues with their hotel amenities that one has paid for.
I cannot put into words how much this place means to me. It’s taken me a few months and another visit to get it right. From booking to check in to check out the staff were beyond amazing. We never had to worry about a thing. They got us to and from the airport for reasonable rates. They cared about our story, our life, our wellbeing. The food, the pool club, the entertainment - all excellent. Simon, Brian, Marcus and all their staff were absolutely magical.February 2025 saw me taking my first flight, seeing the ocean for the first time, and getting engaged here on Valentine’s Day. A few days later, we took part in the wedding of some dear friends. The staff were a huge part of why the trip was so amazing. Friends who came rather dislike travel - they got home from that trip and booked another back to PVR within 24hrs.October 2025 found us returning for Halloween and Day of the Dead. Unfortunately, we booked a different resort. We did however come back to Casa Cupula for a pool party, as well as drag brunch the following day. On our way to the pool party, our taxi was taking us up the hill to the entrance and tears welled up in my eyes because it felt like I was coming home. The staff didn’t know we were in town. They saw us and we got hugs and welcomed back with love and affection. That was the cherry on top.If you want a fully relaxing and well rounded experience with amazing care and attention, views, food, entertainment, and everything else you desire, stay here. Choose Casa Cupula for the memories, the professionalism, the fun, the joy, and the love. I cannot wait to stay here next time.
Just retuned from my second visit to Puerto Vallarta this year and always stay at Casa Cupula…a stunning oasis away from the maddening crowds. The hotel is located on a mountainside with stunning views and a short walk to the beach and/or nightlife. Their Vista King room is awesome and fully stocked with food and drinks. The king bed was outstanding and I slept very soundly every night. There was no loud music or traffic to impede sleep. View of the mountains was incredibly peaceful and you have a very large balcony to enjoy it. Restaurant offers a varied menu with a beautiful outdoor balcony overlooking a lush mountainside. Pool area was relaxing with bar drinks and food served daily. Many pool events available for entertainment should one be so inclined. Overall, a truly wonderful experience with an outstanding staff that caters to all your needs. Shuttle car also available for short hops at no expense…though tipping is appreciated. Will be back again in another six months.
I don't recommend stay in the hotel; if you go only to the pool parties its OK!I stayed one night. The rooms are old and the furniture looks deteriorated. Neither of the two AC worked properly, so it was very hot inside the room.At checkout, they didn't cancel the $3,000 pesos deposit, which is a security deposit, so I had to keep calling and emailing to get it returned. After all they returned my deposit via PayPal; but I probably won't come back stay in the hotel.
BEST GAY HOTEL EVER! I have been coming here for almost 3 years and at least twice per year. I had a birthday party there. The rooms are unique and amazing with so much character and space. Some rooms have private hot tubs on the patio. There are 3 pools and 3 hot tubs on the property. Kindest and most genuine staff. I lost my phone... it was found... and the hotel shipped it back to me. Any bad review you see of this hotel is a an upset American and thats coming from someone who is an American. If you book at Almar, be ready to become a dollar sign. If you book at Casa Cupula, you are family.
Try for a room that faces outward into the valley. I had a room that had a mixed view of hillside forests, condos, and the ocean and it was beautiful. The location is more secluded being on a hilltop with a long, winding road downhill to the more active streets. It’s still close to stuff but if you don’t want to be on the main drag it has a good standoff.
This place has such a great secret restaurant with a focus on male health, and several options for everyone! Love the service and the owner. The atmosphere is artistic and tropical placed on a hill in the jungle. So amazing.
I will only be staying here in PV from now on.. the staff are genuine and kind, the food is tremendous and the vibe is chill and inviting. The food/drink prices are reasonable - and they have great events pretty much every day that people from other hotels come and pay to enjoy - but they are at your doorstep for free. The “After Dark” poolside dinner and show is an absolute must, you will not be disappointed.
After Dark is a current promotion that there currently running that includes a 4 course meal. You don’t need to be a guest staying there. We did not stay here but gave a 5 star for room so it doesn’t hurt their rating. The dinner experience was the best we’ve had during our 2 month vacation. The setting & ambiance was beautiful & romantic for my wife & I.They feature live music during these events and we got do enjoy Diego & Jared. The whole experience was so wonderful and the host Brian made sure every table was satisfied.Highly recommend.
** edit in response to owner’s retort**: I didn’t realize that I was obligated to immediately place a review upon leaving the hotel. I make a review when I feel like it and not on your terms.I have photos of the water and receipts and can post in my next edit. I was not going to pack up and change the room for the last night after slipping and sliding for 4 nights. Even people that came to the resort for the weekend events commented on the price. You’re correct in that the prices are relative. Everything in life is relative that’s not absolute. Your prices are at the higher end of the spectrum. That much is beyond dispute.I hope folks can see how combative and how there is a lack of accountability with how you decide to come comment and be defensive of indefensible service. Everyone that I know that is planing to go to PV, I make it known they should avoid that resort and post on all my socials. I returned home to seek the medical attention I needed. Why would I let your inattentive and apathetic staff know what has occurred? I’m not changing my review. It’s factual. It’s my experience and you are not going to bully me to sugar coat my experience.Went with my partner. First of all they will be super nice to you over the emails but ignore you when you get there. The hotel food and drinks are super expensive and do not open a tab as they charge other people’s drinks to your tab.Our room had water coming from the air conditioner and they gave us a room beneath the pool bar where we could hear chairs dragging all the time.I did not find the staff friendly at all. Wouldn’t go back and don’t recommend going. Also had a burger that was undercook that landed me in the hospital.
My husband and I reserved a stay beginning on Monday and checking out on Saturday. Upon arrival everything seemed ok, the service was friendly. We had lunch in the restaurant while waiting for our room and it was quite good- the views were likewise good. The stay changed for us upon arrival in room. While spacious and had a few nice touches like monogrammed towels, the lounge chairs were almost unusable because the strings had stretched and it meant sitting on a hard bar. We attempted to shower before going out for the evening and had no hot water. We alerted the desk and just dealt with it for then. It was 7:30 pm and we decided to visit the bar and pool area for a drink. No one was there and the bar was closed. We were informed this is typical- this was a huge disappointment. Upon getting into the bed in our room that evening, it became immediately apparent that there was a large area in the middle of the bed that was sunken in. My husband and I both kept rolling towards it and found ourselves trying to put towels and other things in the middle to make it more comfortable. We were unsuccessful and woke up very tired after getting almost no sleep and both of our backs hurt badly. We then found that there was still no water at the hotel. We asked again and were told they knew, but didn't have a repair eta. At this point after no sleep and no showers again, we decided this was not what was advertised, booked a different 4 star hotel and asked if we could depart and not stay. We were informed that the reservation was booked non-refundable and even though the bed was horrible and there was no hot water, there was "nothing" they could do in terms of compensation or a refund. Basically they had our money and there was nothing they cared to do for providing an inferior experience at a place rated as 4 star. Needless to say we just kept the room since no money would be returned and still left and paid for a different hotel elsewhere. We returned to the pool area a few times and it was always quiet no matter what time of day. The only exception was during the parties on the weekend, but that wasn't what the pictures try to convey. The hotel shouldn't have 4 stars and the service and quality of the rooms should be better. We will not return and are surprised the other reviews are as kind as they are. Be careful- this place isn't what it seems.
First time here and we did choose the right place. Rooms are clean, staff is the best. Wonderful conversations with them and they help you out on places to eat, drink and tour. Very knowledgeable crew. We have had some laughs with them, just down to earth friendly. Massage on day one was excellent and the breakfast this morning was amazing. Everything has been to our expectations and that is hard to do for me.
Nice place to stay, very cheerful and friendly staff. Be aware…rooms by the pool club are very noisy during the day due to loud music and parties at the pool. However, all festivities end by 8p and it’s very quiet. My only concern is that it’s a bit remote from everything. I always walk everywhere so it wasn’t a big deal for me, but you should know that the beach and bars are not close.
Had the full experience from Casa Cupula, and I can't wait to come back.Rooms - Very clean, well stocked and the best hotel bed I've ever slept in. Beautiful views of the city all around the resort and from my balcony.Service - Amazing staff! Felix and everyone really went out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Had the private dinner for 2 "Under the stars" and it was a very nice special occasion. The entertainers had the bilingual mix just perfect.Food - No complaints at all, chefs did amazing job. The brunch show and buffet on Sunday is well worth the price.Pool - This was the best part. On the weekend they have their Pool Club parties and it was so much fun. They also have 2 smaller pools if you're looking for something more quiet like me and my partner wanted. The main pool on the weekdays was more subtle, but they sure know how to make great drinks.Gym - Well stocked gym, & wet sauna. Had the couple's message as well while here and the guys did a very good job especially after we had hiked the day before. The dry sauna was under maintenance while we were there, but will look real nice once it's done.Location - About a 15 minute steep walk to the heart of Zona Romantica. There is an Oxxo convenience store open 24h and a pharmacy right at the bottom of the street. If you don't want to do the steep walk/stair climb coming back to the resort, a taxi or Uber is really cheap around PVR but honestly it's not that bad if you can handle the physical aspect. The negatives - It's really nit picky stuff, and I believe just isolated to a couple small problems I had in my room.I'm rebooking to come back next year.
We can't wait to go back! Loved thr staff, the views, the naked parties, and the spa services. We also had the romantic private dinner which was truly memorable!
