An institution of all things queer at night in Helsinki

About
DTM Helsinki is a vibrant and iconic LGBTQ+ nightclub, often celebrated as Scandinavia’s largest gay club. Recently relocated to the trendy Teurastamo district, formerly a meatpacking area, DTM is back with a bang and bigger than ever. The space is all about inclusivity, welcoming people from all walks of life to dance, party, and celebrate in style. Open from Wednesday to Sunday until the early hours, it’s the perfect spot to let loose with themed events, drag shows, and live DJs turning up the heat.
Known for its wild atmosphere and electric crowd, DTM offers more than just a regular night out. It’s a cultural institution for Helsinki’s queer community, and every night is different, featuring anything from Pride parties to the legendary Mr. Gay Finland competition. And if you’re a fan of an all-night rave, this is the place for you.
The venue has become a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ nightlife in Finland, making it a must-visit for locals and tourists alike. Whether you're sipping cocktails at the bar or hitting the dancefloor, DTM is all about celebrating love, diversity, and fabulousness! Make sure to check out their events for a night you won’t forget.
Lately the music has suffered a lot and that is what makes the club worth going to. There is nothing wrong with Finnish music but they have started to play mostly Finnish tracks on the pop side, keeping one side closed, or if the techno side is open it is completely deserted unless evenings they invite a DJ that actually has passion to play techno/trance and not a monotone techno beat. The staff and people are very friendly but the place is losing its spark😔
If you are looking for a lively night out with a diverse crowd, DTM is a popular destination, especially during Halloween weekend. However, while the energy was high, the experience had a few issues worth noting.Atmosphere & MusicThe club has two dance halls, and each had a very different vibe. One room was packed with revellers dancing to famous pop hits — this room was absolutely shoulder-to-shoulder, with hardly any space to move. The second dance hall, unfortunately, missed the mark with a DJ spinning monotonous dance tracks at an overwhelming volume. The music here was too intense and, frankly, did not match the festive spirit, leaving it much emptier than the other room.Bars & DrinksScattered around the venue are several bar corners offering a wide selection of drinks, from cocktails to beers and spirits. The bartenders were quick and efficient, and while drinks were fairly good, expect to pay quite a bit. Entry alone was 12,50€, and with drinks, the total adds up quickly (50€ for us each).FacilitiesThe unisex bathrooms were a major letdown. They are far too small for the crowd that packs the club, and on a busy night like Halloween, they became filthy quite quickly. Long waits were common, and it was uncomfortable at best.StorageStorage for personal belongings was chaotic. I personally had an issue where my backpack and jacket were misplaced, and it took the staff quite a while to locate them. For such a busy night, the club should really streamline this process to avoid the stress of searching for lost items.OverallDTM has an exciting atmosphere for a Halloween celebration, with a big, diverse crowd and decent drinks, but there are definite improvements needed. The loud, repetitive music in one room, messy storage, crowded and dirty bathrooms, and high cost take away from the experience. A night here is fun but comes with a fair share of frustrations.
Wow!! This place is truly amazing, I had so much fun tonight, and as a transgender person out by myself, I felt completely safe and supported to be myself and dress and dance the way I want. I’ve been to lgbtq clubs all over the world but very few places that are all gay everyday have this kind of infrastructure. It’s a huge space with 2 dance floors, killer sound system, and a big chill smoking patio. The staff were super friendly and they had a good selection of drinks. If you are queer/trans and love you dance, this is the spot 🏳️🌈
Such a fun night out and everyone was so lovely! The other reviews worried me but we went anyone and are glad we did. As two l**bians from England we were worried the space wouldn’t be for us or we’d stick out like a sore thumb. BUT the space is for everyone and we had a great night. Our only hack after reading the reviews was ordering water every time we got one cocktail and we didn’t run out of water!
As the account owner of the club restricted me from posting another review with my other account, I am writing again to clarify for future steps. The irresponsible and immature site manager of the club did not even want to talk with us while the security accused my friend of smoking marijuana. They falsely and with extreme racial arrogance are lying about me accepting the breaking of Finnish law. That is an absolute lie. My friend was smoking a cigarette and the untrained and rude lady took it away from his mouth, took the innocent guy to security. While I asked the security people to be accountable for her behavior, the literally kicked us out with no explanation, merely because I told them that their behavior was not polite. One security told me that "you will go to jail and pay fine if police comes" exactly the same words. I said I don't mind paying the fine IF you could even check with me that it was an illegal smoke. They destroyed the cigarette obviously because it was a false accusation. It was undoubtedly a discriminatory action towards us as two "black hair" people who cannot even question an inappropriate behavior.Once again I never admitted to breaking any law, and only IF the immature and full of arrogance site manager were stopping to hear me and deescalate the situation. Instead, literally nose up, he was walked away from the situation. He heard the security, and once I asked to talk to him he said "get out". I asker for the manager and he said "i am the manager and you broke the rules of my place, get out", while the two security gentleman laughed. That was an absolute inappropriate and racist behavior. That occurred while a bunch of Finnish looking people were freely smoking which raised no suspicions for them. The mis-behavior, wrong attitude, and lack of professionalism towards deescalating a false accusation was absolutely unacceptable and nothing justifies it rather than biased racist mindset.I urge the owners to ask the securities again. The force to kick us out was "NOT" because of the accusation of smoking illegal stuff, but happened immediately when one security told to go back and not smoke again, and I said "Ok but her behavior in dragging the cigarette from my friend's mouth/hand was not professional". As soon as I finished the sentence, he aggressively and emotionally-acting opened the gate, forced us out saying "bye". The so called manager came in rush, heard the security, and refused to hear me, told us to get out. This is exactly what happened and once again I demand an appropriate answer from the owners. This discriminations are keep happening in this country by the rise of entitled so-called natives and they do all their best to get away from accepting the responsibility. I am confident that the authorities can help us to be heard and not being mistreated with false accusations or expecting to be treated equally. That would have never happened with a sober white person in that club. That is a fact. They consider people like us as problem makers who cannot even question irresponsible treatments.
Very impolite and untrained security staff. Extremely discriminatory attitude towards non-white guests. The site manager also could not handle a humane conversation to deescalate issues. I felt absolutely discriminated due to my look as being a person who smoked weed in the yard while it was absolutely a normal cigarette. The security pulled the cigarette out of my friend's mouth, destroyed it to the ground and when I asked for more explanation they said "bye". The amateur site manager did not accept to talk with me, walked away and said "out". I would be more than happy to get a proper answer from the owners, assuring people like me not to me and my Indian friend to be mistreated and judged based on stereotypical biases.
The security kicked me out because some racist white woman claimed that I tried to steal from the friend I came with. They never challenged her story and...
it’s just terrible, I know guys who travel look at these reviews, I don’t recommend this club 1) entry costs 17€, 2) you may not be allowed in because you’re too cheerful, I was sober and I don’t drink but the security said I’m drunk , I don't drink alcohol at all 3) they are very rude!!! better go to Hercules, after that we went there with friends and there were no problems
One of the biggest gay clubs in the Nordics, DTM has a long history and name -- without that much substance to match up to it. It hasn't really found its...
