Michael Gaitz opened Michael’s Outpost in 1998. It was taken over by his sister Theresa upon his death in 2011, who remodeled and added the early evening drag shows. It is now under the watch of his brother Charles and wife Denise and run by his niece Tonya.
We are the only gay piano bar in the Houston area, offering different pianists 4 nights a week. Everything from showtunes to pop and some country. We also are proud to offer our Caberet atmosphere as we present professional drag entertainers 4 nights a week. We also have karaoke once a week with great hosts and participants.
Our professional bartenders are fast, fun, courteous, attentive, and serve the best refreshing beverages and bar snacks in the area. The crowd varies according to times and days of the week both in number and in ages. A nice relaxed happy hour spot followed by pumped up energy at night.
If you are looking for a chill relaxing atmosphere, this is it! Drag show and piano bar. Not fist pumping music, maybe a great date spot or just enjoying good normal music.
It would be nice if the platinum blond skinny bartender start being more interested in customer service than binge drinking and talking to his coworker, ignoring people who go there to drink and have a good time. One thing is to be cocky/funny, another thing is to be plain rude. He should save his attitude for his buddies. The only reason I come to this place is because of the drag show and piano night.
Went to Michael's Outpost recently for a friend's event and had a great time. The atmosphere was fun, the people were great, and the prices were good. Definitely a spot worth visiting!
Gotta love a bar with a red door. Great service friendly crowd - smallish bar with a smallish patio. No Montucky Cold Snacks but still moments away from classic tex-mex
Great place to relax, have a few drinks and meet interesting people. The shows are phenomenal and the piano nights are great. The bartenders are always friendly. It’s a nice place where there’s no pretentiousness or posing, everybody goes there to have a good time.
I’m so happy I found this hidden gem ❤️ The energy was amazing, music was great, performances were fun, and Honey B was hilarious! Definitely would come back again and bring even more people ☺️ I made Saturday night reservations in advance (it was packed but I loved it). No cover required but pleaseeee bring cash to tip the amazing performers and bartenders ❤️ I especially loved how the show started at 7:30pm and not super late like a lot of others.
Great drinks and nice atmosphere for older fellows and their admirers. Very friendly and sedate (except when they have drag shows or karaoke - can get loud). Also, fun to listen to (or sing along with) some great piano players on various nights.
We had a long weekend. We Needed to get away. We went to Micheal's Outpost to have a great night. Well, the service that we normally expected was gone!...
Best drag shows in Houston! Mondays it's The Broads Way (Broadway-themed drag and live singing), Tuesday it's Laugh Track (Houston's only drag all-comedy show), Wednesdays it's live piano, Thursdays it's drag Kareoke, Friday it's Modern Nostalgia (drag performances of music between 1900s-2010s), and Saturdays it's Icons (longest-running drag celebrity illusion show).
just starting coming to this bar & started loving it. amazing entertainers + hosts . great crowd. but bartender Ulises is too snotty & uptight. he looks so bothered when i order . candy crush on his phone must’ve been more important than his job because i had to come to the other side of the bar to get his attention . even when he makes incorrect drinks he doesn’t seem to have the slightest sorry . why are you puffing when i’m ordering? definitely would never tip them again. but other bartenders have treated me with so much love. i don’t understand. is it a race thing ?¿
Live in the neighborhood and stopped by to check it out with a friend of mine about a week ago. Found the best lemon drop martini in the area! Strong but...
I make it a point to come to this place every single time that I visit Houston. Bryan is always an awesome host and extremely welcoming. Never a bad experience here!
Best bartenders in Montrose, as well as priced that won't break your budget. Entertainment nightly with a welcoming cried for the piano bar, and eclectic mix of performers and personalities
Let’s repair the heating element in the hand dryer, and paint the wall. I’ll gladly help with the paint part. ☺️ 2/12/23 Thanks for putting up the vinyl!
Fantastic place! I loved the drag show and it was my first time there. I felt embarrassed that I didn't have a tip for the entertainer. So be sure to bring some cash with you. Because those gurls work hard! 👍
Awesome place. The bartenders are wonderful and the piano playing and singing make Michael’s Outpost better than other places in Houston. A must go to
This is the place to be any day of the week. There is always some type of event going on each day of the week. My personal favorite night of the week is Monday night where the Broadsway is in full effect then piano afterwards. The staff is great and even on nights when it’s not busy you can always have a chat with one of the bartenders. Cheers to ULI.
Love this place. Just found out about it about a year ago. So many different things going on on each day of the week. I love the environment and just...
I come here often for laugh track on Tuesday. It's a comfortable little bar with a piano room behind a curtain. On Tuesday the bar tender is Ulises and he is very sweet and patient lol! Laugh track is a hilarious drag comedy show hosted by the amazing and absolutely kind Carmina Vavra! There is a regular line up with special guest every week! I highly recommend going and enjoying a night of laughter and delicious drinks!
I just love this bar! I've never been there for a drag show but I LOVE to sing with the pianists! Where else in Houston can you go and sing with live instrumentation??? At Michael's Outpost you can, you silly thang! :)Anyhow, this place warms my heart and I am so thankful it is still thriving in Houston. Much love to the staff, pianists, and patrons!
Clean early staff happy hour staff friendly but the second shift staff not so friendly I spent almost $200.00 for that I feel they could already pretend to appreciate your business.
All I can say is $8.25 for a simple margarita?Damn. I'm not talking about a big restaurant style glass. Just a regular little glass. I love the piano bar...
Came on Monday for Broads Way show. It's kind of like a variety show that combines drag performances, live singing, and comedy that centers around musicals and. Very entertaining with a great host, and the bartenders make strong and yummy drinks. I would love to come back to check out their other shows that change nightly.
If you're looking for a cozy, local, LGBT+ bar this is a great spot. They offer plenty of weekly entertainment options and were warm and friendly towards my straight family who were visiting with me. As always, be sure to tip the bar staff and the queens.
Adorable little bar with good drinks, great service and a sense of community. Definitely should visit for their show on Monday nights. Fresh Houston talent,...
I'm new to town & the bartender there is the bitchiest one I've ever met idk what the f*ck his problem is. its also extremely SMALL & BORING. there's only...
Went with a group of folks to celebrate a passing of a friend who frequented Micheal's. We had a great time.It was caberet night & what a blast! The hostess was sassy, foul mouthed (where's the tip jar!) & a lot of fun! The venue is small & cozy. Bring ones for tipping your Queens! After the show, it was piano time. Billy Joel & Elton John songs were sung by the crowd sitting around the piano.Reminder, it is a dive bar so stick to your basics.
