Piano Bar

A legend among gay bars in Prague with a 28-year tradition

About

If you’re in Prague and looking for a true hidden gem, Piano Bar in Vinohrady is where you want to be. A mainstay in the city’s gay scene since 1996, this cozy bar is perfect if you're looking for a local, laid-back vibe. Frequented mostly by locals, it offers a traditional Czech pub atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve just stepped into someone’s living room—if that living room had a hundred-year-old piano and a lot of character.

The drinks are affordable, and while the bar isn’t flashy, it’s rich with charm. You won’t find any wild dance floors here, but you can grab a drink, chill out with a game of cards or chess, and soak up the local LGBTQ+ culture. Be prepared, though, as the place can get smoky, which is typical for many bars in Prague. For those wanting a break from the more touristy spots, Piano Bar’s welcoming authenticity shines.

Happy hour runs from 5-7 PM, so it’s a great spot to start your evening before heading to more energetic venues. Plus, if you're hoping to practice your Czech, this is the perfect spot! Don't expect to find many tourists, but that's part of its charm.

It’s a nice little gay bar with some old school pop music in the background. The service was nice and friendly also, felt like a good spot to start the night.

Had the strangest experience tonight. My husband and I went for a beer. The server came over and I ordered "a beer". He said "We have no beer". I said "You have no beer?". And he replied "We have no beer" and walked away. I wasn't sure what was going on. He was very deadpan about it. We were completely confused by what happened. We looked around. Other customers had beer. I wasn't sure if it was because I'm a tourist or older or wasn't specific in what I ordered and he was just being a dick about it. Anyway, we decided to just leave. We were there a few nights prior and really enjoyed ourselves. The waiter that night was fine. He asked us what kind of beer we wanted and came back later to ask if we wanted a 2nd and 3rd beer (we did). I'd give him 5 stars for service. I'm only giving it 2 stars overall because of what I experienced tonight.Prague is fairly well known for it's sometimes rude service. Not sure if this was one of those times but it certainly seemed like it. If you find yourself in a similar situation here, just leave. Q Cafe is a bit of a walk but it's much friendlier. I don't need to be best buddies with the bartenders but professionalism isn't an unreasonable expectation.A bar in Prague that doesn't have beer? Oh well. C'est la vie.Reply to Karel:There was no "misunderstanding ". I ordered "a beer". I was mistaken for not being specific but he very clearly said "We have no beer". He didn't offer an alternative nor any explanation.

The bar is at the new location, has also two stages for events. It is not that big but it has a new upstairs patio. Friendly staff, affordable prices. It is a gay bar, but it is heterofriendly. Repeated visits, last in March 2024.

All I can say is THANK YOU! There's not enough words who I can describe who welcomed and in house I felt in the Bar, but I'll try my best. It was my first time in the city and we decided to try the Bar. It is quite spacious, the atmosphere is nice, the music is really good, during the week it's kinda easygoing not so full, but on Friday with the drag show was really crowded but with an amazing good energy. The owner is incredibly welcoming and a really nice guy, and the staff is just as nice as the owner, even in the moments when they're super busy they'll take your request with a smile on their face. On Wednesday the owner explained that the bar would be full on the weekend, so that we should come back if we had the time, and even give us some advice on where else to go in the city during our stay. We went thinking in just one night, and we ended up going back the 3 nights we stayed. The cocktails are amazing, the menu is really good, in resume a must visit place in Prague for any given night.
