For two NYers (from Brooklyn), Shelter Bar was the right choice. Sebastian and Amadeo, our bartenders, set the ideal vibe. They know the scene so well and will advise you on how you can best spend your time in Lisbon. The drinks are strong and so affordable. The atmosphere is chill. Couldn't have asked for a better time.
Great gay bar in a vibrant popular Lisboa neighborhood. Good vibe, friendly bartenders, quite busy with constant traffic in and out. Predominantly gay but frequented by a mixed local and visiting folks of both genders.
Amazing bar we had a lot of good time with my friends visiting from Colombia and the bartenders. Amadeo and Sebastian was very good and friendly and served us. Good cocktails.
Excellent little queer bar in the heart of the city. The bartenders really make this place special, and they are attentive and friendly. Came back each night on our trip here, was a great space to end the day in. Skews a bit more older / bears. During the week it's a more chill vibe, but there is DJ and dancing on the weekends.
The atmosphere here is great. Fun music and lighting. Two of the servers, Amadeo and Sebastian, were very welcoming. They offered great and friendly service and kept us coming back 3 nights in a row. We had a wonderful time here with a lot of laughs and met some great people.
Friendly, good atmosphere, but....I paid first time 11 euro ( I thought it was a little bit high) for 2 cider drinks, and the next time I order 1 with another bartender, I give 5,50 and get 1 euro back...I don't like this kind of "mistakes".Result = 2 stars.
My partner and I just spent a week in Lisbon and had a blast at Shelter. Great and friendly service. We had a great time to talk with the staff. We went a few times during our stay. The ambiance is different from one night to another. Amadeo, Sebastian and another friendly bartender (that I forgot his name unfortunately) were just fun and amazing ! 🙂
Once you got your drink, waiters seem to have other stuff to do (we were literally 5 customers in the bar…). They absolutely don’t check on you.Waited 30 minutes hoping to cross their look and order a second drink… but one was too busy talking with one specific customer, and the second one, nowhere to be seen in the beginning, was as well too busy chitchatting at the other side of the bar with two customers…At least they don’t push for consumption…
Cute bear bar in Lisbon, the space was small but full of fun & lovely bears..Amadeo is the star of the bar, amazing drinks he prepared for us, fun shoots..
ok so this was home base for me during my short stay in Lisbon. Really cute super clean and sexy little bar!. Amadeus was amazing! A good bartender sets the tone and he was Super friendly and welcoming...even introduced me to some hot sweet guys and I felt like I had friends there in no time!Definitely going back and I recommend it for sure!
The staff can learn a thing or two about friendly and non-racist service from the Finalement Club down the road. I ordered a white wine, which was not served cold. Another group of men at the bar, who were also having some white wine asked for some ice in their wine. When I asked for some ice in my wine, the bar man launched into a tirade about how "I should never ask for ice in my wine, and if I did that in Italy, I would be kicked out of the bar!" When I asked him why he didn't say the same thing to the other customers who had also asked for ice in their white wine, he said "they are our neighbours". So, they are either only friendly to locals or not keen on having brown-skinned folk like me as their customers! Go to the Finalement Club or Bar 106 instead, where staff are a lot friendlier
There are different places when you can feel the vibe. The vibe for being accepted, vibe for being safe. And these place is the one that can definitely feel that vibe. Amadeo, Nuno - they are keepers of this place.Just enjoy your cocktail and believe in yourself:)
I discovered this very friendly bear bar in Lisbon Portugal. It was Great! I went several times while in Lisbon on holiday. The crowd was fun, the drinks/food was really good and the bartender, Amadeo, was so friendly and sexy! He made me feel very welcomed and offered a lot of information about Lisbon and surrounding area and suggested places for me to go see/visit such as Cascais and other near by day trips.I has margarita which were served straight up like a martini. I also tried the pizza which was also very good, thin crust yet filling. The music was fantastic! Kept me in a good mood.I highly recommend the bar next time you are in Lisbon!
My partner and I stumbled upon this place our second of two nights in fabulously musical, Lisbon last March. The bartender, Amadeo, was so warm and welcoming, he made us some of the best cocktails we had at a gay bar. After a short time chatting, the bar magically began to fill with patrons and then the fun began. I'll never forget this night even tho I was a "mess" to have to leave the Iberian peninsula after one of the most positive and life affirming experiences I and my partner have ever had in our lives. We are so greatful to Shelter Bar, Amadeu, and the gracious owner for giving us one memorable night that made us regret leaving Lisbon. Thanks, guys.
Lovely friendly bar, We (french tourists) had a nice talk to the barman, he speaks English, Spanish, Arabic. Also we met a client that it was easy to talk with, then end up to share our Whatapp ! The place is clean, foods & drinks are good ! As I worked for GOOGLE FRANCE I give my 5 stars, we left with a big hug to Amadeo and Gerard !
Fav bar in Lisbon - a lot more modern than the rest. Great staff and service. They go out of your way to make you feel welcomed and entertained. Good prices, excellent music, and they even serve pizza & toasties!
Bartender was very pleasant, this guy made us feel like home, definitely quiet before 11:00 pm but I’m sure it’s a great time anytime you visit! Service was outstanding
We absolutely loved the Shelter Bar. We're a queer couple from the states and went in search of other queers in the PrÃncipe Real area. We felt right at home and instant friends with Amadeo behind the bar. He was a pure delight and we had to go back another night.
Our experience at Shelter in Lisbon was nothing short of incredible! The vibrant atmosphere and Amadeo's friendly demeanor, combined with his knack for mixing great drinks, made it an unforgettable night out. The bar's warm and welcoming vibe, along with Amadeo's outgoing and interesting personality, created the perfect setting for a fantastic evening. We'll undoubtedly be returning to Shelter for more memorable nights! Highly recommend this gem in Lisbon.
This is THE BEST BAR in Lisbon. Amadeo, in picture, is a bartender extraordinaire. He makes you feel like you have come home. Massimo, one of the owners, has created an atmosphere that is comfortable and welcoming and a bit edgy. Great music. This is a good place to start your evening or to finish it. In the upscale Principe Real neighborhood with other gay bars and clubs steps away. Go!Gene from the US.
The Shelter Bar is an amazing place to spend your night. The pizza was good and Amadeo was very friendly and makes great drinks. I highly recommend the Shelter during your visit to Lisbon.
I spent 10’days in Lisbon and visited this bar every night! Amadeo and all of the staff was amazing making interesting introductions to other patrons in the club that made my trip even more enjoyable! I highly recomend that you add this gay bar to your list of bars to visit!
The guys who run the bar are absolutely amazing. So sweet, fun, and welcoming. If you’re lucky, one of them will show you his Mario Bros pics from around the world. I shall say no more than that; go find out for yourself, they’re not to be missed
Popular, cosy and friendly bear bar in Principe Real with a relaxed atmosphere. DJs from 22:00 on weekends. Special event nights for Carnival, Eurovision etc. (one of the few gay bars to open early at 6pm).
We have not tried any food there so cannot comment hence no star rating for food, but the atmosphere and the service from the bar staff are second to none. so much so that we have been there twice in 2 days and will be going again several times during our stay in lisbon. Super friendly and very welcoming. Keep doing what you're doing guys.x
We were there waaaay to early (7pm) on Tuesday night. Friendly staff ( most gorgeous brown eyes) only few ppl there so we knew that it wouldn’t be packed. We wanted to check it out. That’s all.We did score some great bear t shirts !!It’s a bar.Didn’t see a dance floor or cruise area. Given the size I don’t think there is one.
Phenomenal find! The crowd is a very handsome mix of all age groups, but definitely younger than most gay bars in the area. Lots of fun in a safe environment!
Great gay bar, hole in the wall, attracts mostly 30 years and older. Great music from the 80s, people genuinely try to make a connection. Service is...
Unfortunately, we visited on a Thursday and arrived too early, meaning that it was less of a crowd. The music was good, and the staff was friendly. Will most likely return next time we visit Lisbon again.
Nice bar with a good ambient and a friendly crowd. A good option for the area. Not your default choice if you're a younger person or are into younger people, but the music is good.
This is my neighborhood hang out. I come here 4 or 5 times a week. Telmo and Rodrigo are the best bartenders. Friendly vibe. Not a club but good music and atmosphere. Later in the evening is busier.
This small bar is a treasure. Max made me feel so welcome, as if i was an old and dear friend. It was easy to meet and talk to other guests, and the environment is relaxed, comfortable and so, so welcoming. If you're in Lisbon and want to mingle with the LGBT community (and any heteros who happen to walk in), Shelter Bar is exquisite. 1000% must visit.
Friendly staff.Prices are ok.I went on Sunday and it was pretty quiet. The music wasn't too loud and that allowed me to talk with my bf without screaming.
The best bar in Lisbon. The owners are incredibly nice and friendly. The bar has a really nice vibe. Perfect place for bears, daddies, cubs, and otters. Nice place with great people
Excellent treatment from the bar staff in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.Great cocktails, particularly the strawberry gin, great attention to detail. 100% recommend.
NOT A SAFE PLACE! They are desperate for money! They try to follow the rules of the government because of coronavirus but they asked me to sit people that i have no idea who they are in my table, and I saw the same situation with other visitors. The social distance is impossible to be fulfilled cause they put people everywhere. They forced me to eat, otherwise i wouldn´t be allowed to drink alcohol but i saw people drinking without food. When i asked the schedule they said that people can come in till midnight but i saw new customers arriving after that. Stay safe and don´t go there
Rubbish! The place looks like random birthday party articles crammed together! The staff, except for the tall, serious one, were so unprofessionaland super rude! They were very rude and were ignoring us, everytime we tried to wave to them to order something. The very young staff (the cub one) was the worst. He would not respond to wordingQuestions without rolling his eyes. Probably here are only the known local guests welcome. We’ll never go back again. I don’t recommend this place to anyone.
Wonderful bar. Great bartender Pedro. Friendly and worth talking to all night long. Urinals were Jeff A worthy of Club Lancaster mention. Soundtrack...
