I rarely leave reviews, but this place earned it. Let’s start with the coat check, because somehow it set the tone for everything that followed. Chaotic, disorganized, and handled with a level of indifference that immediately makes you feel like you’re inconveniencing the staff by existing. No clear system, no accountability, just vibes—and bad ones. Service overall is painfully inconsistent. Staff seem overwhelmed, disengaged, or both. You’re left waiting, guessing, and recalibrating expectations in real time. There’s an unmistakable sense that the operation is running on autopilot, assuming people will tolerate anything because the place has a name. The atmosphere? Overhyped and uncomfortable. Not in a “cool, edgy Brooklyn” way—more like cramped, stressful, and poorly managed. Everything feels slightly hostile: the flow of people, the pacing, the interactions. You don’t feel welcomed; you feel processed. What’s most frustrating is that this could all be excused if the experience justified it. It doesn’t. The arrogance-to-quality ratio is completely out of balance. If you’re going to treat guests like they’re lucky to be there, you should at least deliver something memorable in return. Instead, you get mediocrity wrapped in attitude. There are too many places in this city that actually respect their customers to waste time here. This wasn’t just disappointing—it was actively unpleasant. Won’t be back, and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values their time, money, or patience.

ANIMAL is one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn! Great atmosphere with a fun mixed crowd. Drinks are fairly priced, and the music is consistently good. Perfect for a relaxed drink or dancing. Highly recommend for a good night out.

A safe place for everyone one to visit! Great music and great staff. If you don’t like following rules about drg use, maybe not the place for you. Hue and Tam are amazing!

I went to Animal in Brooklyn Saturday night (03/14/26) and had a very concerning experience. Around 2:30 AM, as my group was leaving, I realized my phone was missing from my pocket. At first I thought I might have dropped it, but as we approached the exit we began hearing multiple other people saying their phones had also disappeared. Several people mentioned that many phones had already been reported missing that night, a guy said about 15+ people. At that point it became clear that there appeared to be a pickpocketing situation happening in the bar. We immediately reported it to the security staff at the front and asked to speak with someone in charge. We spoke with staff and asked for a manager so they would be aware that phones were actively being stolen from guests. Unfortunately, no one was able to help us or provide any guidance about what to do. Many people were standing around outside trying to figure out how their phones disappeared. What was most concerning was that there seemed to already be many people affected, yet there was no visible response, warning to guests, or assistance provided while this was happening. I’m writing this so other guests are aware to be extremely careful with their belongings if they visit. Very disappointed, we were going to call the police into the bar but we just gave up and left.

This AI generated gay bar features a variety of spaces including a large outdoor patio, lounge, dance floor, and spare room in the corner. While the space is great (as are the drinks) the gays come off as somewhat cold and indifferent. Like they need to be told they are good enough. Unfortunately, they are not.
