Friend's Tavern, or popularly referred to as Friend's, is one of the many bars on and around Roosevelt Avenue that primarily caters to the LGBT Latino community. This bar has been in business at this location since 1989 and is considered the oldest operating gay bar in Queens. I honestly did not know I would be coming here, just followed my friend who knew a great spot to drink. Depending on when you come, the bar can be brightly lit, although it is mostly dimmed, brightened by various spot lights and neon lights lining the walls. The atmosphere is intoxicating and everyone is friendly. You'll definitely have fun and the time of your life. Even if you are shy or introverted, the alcohol will loosen you up. My friend and I ordered a few drinks, all of which went down smoothly. If you are new to drinking, like me, please be careful and not to drain your drink too fast. I made that mistake and ended up drunk, hurling in the bathroom. I am glad my friend was there to comfort and care for me while I was incoherent, but I was also glad to hear (as much as I could) the bartender being concerned as well. While it should be common sense and courtesy, it was pleasant to hear the bartender, server, and some of the patrons looking out for me (and each other). I am looking forward to coming back, but next time, I will DEFINITELY slow down the intake of my drinking.
