About Lambda Lounge

Lambda Lounge is a Black-owned LGBTQ+ cocktail bar on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard in Harlem. Created by Charles Hughes and Richard Solomon, the venue provides a welcoming nightlife space centred on New York’s Black and Latino LGBTQ+ communities while remaining open to everyone. The lounge describes its style as combining downtown elegance with uptown energy. Its intimate, low-lit interior includes an oversized bar and comfortable sofa sections, creating an atmosphere suited to both relaxed conversation and livelier late-night socialising. Signature cocktails are central to the experience, including drinks made with Lambda Vodka, the LGBTQ+-owned spirits brand established by the venue’s founders before the lounge opened. Depending on the evening, the atmosphere may include music, dancing and special community events. Lambda Lounge is smaller and more intimate than a large nightclub, making it particularly suitable for drinks with friends, dates and group celebrations. Reservations and enquiries for private parties, special events and venue hire can be made through its official website. Walk-ins are also welcomed when space is available.

What to expect

An intimate and stylish Harlem LGBTQ+ lounge with signature cocktails, comfortable seating and a predominantly Black and Latino queer crowd. Expect a relaxed start to the evening, with a livelier and more social atmosphere later at night.

Went to this club and was very disappointed. First red flag they had a male security searching females. Music was terrible. Couch in what appeared to be a VIP area looked terrible. The price for drinks is ridiculous. When you look around in my honest opinion they need to close this place down and do some maintenance/renovation. Went there with five of my friends and we ended up leaving for somewhere else. Y’all need to do better!

I’ve been a regular here, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. A fight broke out during my visit and my drink was spilled on me as a result. When I calmly explained the situation to the bartender, nothing was done to remedy it. I even tried to escalate it to the owner, and still, no resolution. Considering the drinks here are around $22, I expected a much higher level of customer service and accountability. This situation definitely made me reevaluate whether I want to continue coming back.

I visited this bar recently and unfortunately the experience wasn’t good. The staff came off very rude and the overall energy felt off. As a customer who is spending money and supporting a business, basic respect shouldn’t feel like too much to ask. I especially try to support Black-owned businesses, so it was disappointing to feel like the attitude was intentionally mean for no reason. After reading some of the other reviews, it seems like I’m not the only one who noticed something off with the way customers are treated. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously because the vibe from the staff really matters.

This place allows bouncers to assault people just for voicing disagreements with them. I’ve never felt more afraid of a bar in my life and honestly, this place has no place in NYC. I understand it is black-owned and gay….but they are not representing any of us in a positive light. I also feel like maybe the bouncers are so aggressive because they don’t agree. The reviews don’t lie.
