About Mandalyns Bath

Mandalyns is the centre of LGBTQ+ nightlife in Bath and one of the city’s latest-opening bars. Tucked behind George Street, the intimate venue combines cheap drinks, karaoke, a small dancefloor and regular drag cabaret without losing the feeling of a friendly local. It is not a huge club, and that is part of its charm: the room fills quickly and strangers soon feel like part of the same night. Come later in the evening, particularly from Thursday onwards, when the venue has the most energy.

What to expect

A compact, friendly gay bar that mixes karaoke and drag with a small dancefloor and a late-night crowd.

I have had the best time the other night! Came in on a Thursday because I seen that there was Karaoke and it was one I will definitely be speaking about to others if they are wanting to go out and sing their hearts out! The host was Phillupa Bucket and she is hands down the BEST host I’ve ever seen. She was a fantastic performer and made everyone feel so welcome into this stunning venue! Massive shoutout to the bar staff who worked their absolute socks off as it was super busy and the door staff as well for such a lovely welcome and keeping us safe at all times! Will definitely be coming back to Mandalyns Bath!!

Excellent bar. During the three years I lived in Bath Mandalyns became my safe space. It's welcoming to all, whoever you may be. They give a consistent space for local drag talent and a space for the LGBTQIA+ community to be themselves. Thursday karaoke night with queen Phillupa Bucket was my favorite!

Great night overall at Mandalyns. Atmosphere was really good and the karaoke was brilliant, loads of fun and people actually getting involved. Drinks were reasonably priced as well which is always nice for a night out. Would have been a 5 star night but something we saw wasn’t great. The door staff had just removed someone for being homophobic and the guy even spat on the doorman while leaving which was pretty disgusting. A couple minutes later the manager (who was dressed like a bunny) came out and seemed to be telling the doorman off in front of people. Didn’t really understand why because from what we saw the door staff handled it calmly and properly. Just felt a bit wrong seeing staff spoken to like that, especially after dealing with someone being abusive. Still a fun place and good vibe, just that bit left a bit of a bad taste.

We attended as a group of lesbians to support a friend who was singing karaoke, but unfortunately we left feeling unwelcome. Throughout the evening, it became noticeable that song requests with female names on them were repeatedly pushed to the back of the queue by the person running the karaoke. We were also told that we shouldn’t be talking or dancing while someone was singing, despite this being a lively bar environment where people naturally want to enjoy themselves and support performers. What disappointed us most was that the gay man running the karaoke explicitly said that this bar is not for lesbians and that we shouldn’t be allowed to sing. Comments like this made it clear that we weren’t really welcome because we were women. Rather than feeling like an LGBTQ+ venue, it felt as though it catered exclusively to gay men. That’s particularly upsetting given that LGBTQ+ spaces should be inclusive of everyone in the community, including lesbians. We came to support a friend, have fun and celebrate our community together. Instead, we left feeling excluded. We hope the venue reflects on this, because every part of the LGBTQ+ community deserves to feel equally welcome and respected.

This place has made me realise my going out days are not over! Perfect for a smaller night out with the same amount of fun. Way better than labs, komedia and others in bath. Friendlier people, better vibes overall. The karaoke is great fun! Finishes at 11 on Saturday though. Then it becomes a dance floor with dj and is really fun. The security guy is nice even though I was being annoying 😇. Only thing I have to complain about is £10 doubles 😔. But spoons is nearby!!
