About Maxwell Onsen

Maxwell Onsen brings Japanese bathhouse culture to Bangkok’s gay nightlife district on Surawong Road. Opened in 2024, the men-only venue centres around three mineral pools: a hot Kusatsu-style bath, a warm Epsom-salt bath and a cold plunge. Facilities also include a pine dry sauna, bergamot and lemongrass steam room, Himalayan salt room and a dark, quiet mindfulness lounge. Beyond the bathing areas, Maxwell includes curtained private relaxation rooms and a restaurant serving a Japanese set meal with entry. The atmosphere is more polished and wellness-focused than a traditional cruising sauna, although cruising is part of the venue and dedicated private areas are available. Its central Silom location puts it within walking distance of BTS Sala Daeng and Chong Nonsi.

What to expect

A clean, modern gay bathhouse with a strong Japanese onsen feel. Visitors move between hot and cold pools, sauna, steam and relaxation spaces before eating downstairs. It functions both as a wellness venue and a social/cruising space, with the busiest periods tending to be evenings and weekends.

Read the previous reviews before coming here, and I actually had a really good time! The lady at reception was so nice and kind — not sure if she was the same person people were complaining about in the previous reviews. The facilities were really impressive — everything looked modern, clean, and well maintained. The whole place had a calm, relaxing, almost luxury spa-like atmosphere. The showers, seating areas, and common spaces were spotless and comfortable, and the overall environment felt very welcoming and peaceful. 600 Baht was a little steep, but it did include a meal, dessert, ice cream, and drinks, which made it feel more worth it in the end. WARNING: YOU MUST HAVE A DECENT BODY / DECENT LOOKING otherwise you will be empty hand home 🥹🥹 Have fun!!

A nice place to spend half a day and relax. The facility is very clean and well-maintained. There is a decent snack area upstairs, and the massage rooms are on the top floor. The only downside is that the baths are relatively cramped. So, if you are looking specifically for water procedures and relaxation, a standard onsen like Yunomori Onsen (available in Bangkok and Pattaya) might be a better option

Great spot to relax! Entry is 600 THB. Just a heads up, they only accept cash or PromptPay. Make sure you keep your receipt because you can swap it for a free meal at the restaurant on the second floor. The layout is a bit unique but here’s the breakdown: · 1st Floor: Just the reception where you pay and enter. To get to the baths, you need to walk up to the Mezzanine level and then walk the stairs down again. · Mezzanine Level: This is where the locker rooms and toilets are. You'll change here before heading down to the baths. · Basement (accessed from Mezzanine): This is the main bathing area! It has a hot pool, an even hotter one in the middle, and a cold plunge pool. There are also Japanese-style open showers to clean yourself with, a dry sauna, and a steam room. · 2nd Floor: This is the relaxation floor. You need to change to Yukata before coming up here. It has the cafeteria (where you get your free meal!), a lounge with big comfy chairs, and a "salt therapy" room. The air in there feels salty, but I didn't really feel any major effects. · 3rd Floor: Private rooms you can use and a room with massage chairs which is usually fully occupied.. The free meal was a nice bonus! My top pick is definitely the chicken karaage. The salmon rice bowl was just okay, a little bland for my taste. Final heads up: It's a really good place to chill, but if you're planning on having fun in the private rooms, you need to bring your own supplies. They don't provide condoms here.

The staff provided excellent service. There was a relaxation area after enjoying the onsen, and they even offered food and ice cream. It was fantastic!

Nice and quite place. Not overcrowded especially in daytime. Food and interior were great and clean. The staff is kind and nice. Its a great “escape “ point for dates, spa and onsen experience in japanese way. Couldnt take photos but you can find it through google. Looks exactly same. Nice drinks are also available. Recommend and will be visited again
