Metropolitan is a long-running gay bar on Lorimer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Open since 2002, it has become an established part of the borough’s LGBTQ+ nightlife while welcoming queer people, friends and allies. The venue combines the informal atmosphere of a neighbourhood dive bar with an active programme of entertainment. Inside, visitors will find a pool table, a digital photo booth, comfortable seating and two fireplaces that make the bar particularly inviting during colder months. Outside, Metropolitan has a large garden with two levels of seating, including a private upper patio available for group celebrations and events. Programming changes throughout the week and regularly includes DJs, dancing, drag performances, karaoke, comedy, trivia, viewing parties and themed queer nights. The atmosphere is generally more relaxed during afternoon happy hour before becoming busier and more energetic later in the evening. During the summer, Metropolitan is especially known for its Sunday garden barbecues, featuring complimentary food with a drink purchase, rotating DJs and outdoor performances.
