About Pulteney 431

Pulteney 431 — often called ‘The Club’ or ‘431’ — has been operating in Adelaide since 1977 and markets itself as a safe, friendly venue for gay, bisexual and bi-curious cis men. It’s a traditional men’s sauna with a broad facilities list: pool, spa, dry sauna, steam room, sling room, TV lounge, garden area and a snack bar. The club offers annual membership (with recorded-visit rewards) or casual entry, and runs specific promotions such as Buddy Tuesdays and concessions for eligible visitors. Practical rules are clear on the website: minimum entry age 18, no alcohol, no drugs and consent is required. The venue also extends hours for long weekends and certain holiday periods.

What to expect

A straightforward men’s sauna visit focused on facilities rather than a bar or club night. Expect thermal rooms, a pool and relaxation areas across the day and into late-night at weekends; entry can be on a one-off basis or via a paid membership with occasional discounts and visit rewards.

It has been great to see the positive changes already happening under the new owners. You can tell they’re passionate about improving the venue and have a lot of exciting ideas for its future. The place feels noticeably cleaner, there’s a more welcoming atmosphere, and it’s attracting a broader mix of people. It’s also refreshing that the new owners are willing to support other local businesses and help build a stronger community. Change takes time, but they’re definitely heading in the right direction. Looking forward to seeing what comes next !

This place was great. The guy at the desk, Paul, was very helpful and we had a great chat. Didn't hurt that he is sexy. Everything was pretty clean except the towel had a funny smell.

I’ve been a regular here for 20 years. I’ve never had any issue with the staff or the patrons in all that time. It’s my happy space where I go to to forget all my issues and to have some peace with like minded people. I’ve met some of my closest friends in this place. And for those who seem to dislike the old man who works there, he’s been nothing but a gentleman to me in all the 20 years I’ve been there. Always friendly and always up for a chat whenever I come through.

I went there for the first time this month, and I liked it. I had low expectations because I'd only heard bad things about it. I've been to saunas in my country. And in my opinion this sauna is very good, I found the rooms very clean and large, the attendant was very friendly. I suggest that people give it a chance.
