About Sauna Casanova

Sauna Casanova in Barcelona stands out as a key destination in the city's vibrant gay scene, particularly in the renowned Eixample district, affectionately known as "Gaixample." This area is the epicenter of gay nightlife in Barcelona, and Sauna Casanova is a prominent feature here, boasting the title of the largest gay sauna in Spain. The venue recently underwent renovations, enhancing its appeal with a spacious 1400 square meter layout. This sizeable establishment offers an array of amenities across three floors, including a massive jacuzzi that can comfortably accommodate over twenty people. Alongside this, there are both dry and wet saunas, a steam room, extensive dark rooms, a maze filled with private cubicles in the basement, a fetish area equipped with a swing, and even a swimming pool. What makes Sauna Casanova a hot spot is not just its facilities but also its social atmosphere. At its heart is a stylish bar, unique for a sauna setting, offering a great socializing spot. The clientele is diverse, with a leaning towards a younger, muscled crowd, though the influx of tourists means there's someone for everyone. The sauna is particularly buzzing during weekends and special events like Barcelona's famous Circuit party or Pride, where it transforms into an unofficial afterparty spot. The only downside noted by visitors is the entry cost, averaging around 21 euros, which can be higher on holidays. In terms of cleanliness and atmosphere, reviews are mixed. While some visitors praise the sauna for its clean facilities and friendly staff, others have pointed out that some areas might appear outdated or less well-maintained. Nonetheless, for those looking to dive into the local gay scene, Sauna Casanova offers an immersive and vibrant experience, making it a must-visit spot in Barcelona's gay district.

I’m seriously considering starting a campaign to get this hellhole closed down. The owners, who I’m thinking are straight and hate gay people, should be prosecuted. It’s a major risk to the heath of gay men and it’s actually homphobic that the authorities don’t intervene, it’s like they don’t care about the wellbeing of gay men. The sauna is beyond FILTHY!!!! Full of mould, dirt, infested with cockroaches and numerous other bugs. A breeding ground for every disease under the sun, from legionnaires’ disease to salmonella and hepatitis A. On top of that it seems to be the number one place to overdose in bcn, wonder how many guys have actually died in there? Then there’s the flouting of the smoking ban, everyone smokes and it’s a fire risk too. None of the saunas work, there is zero soap available, nobody cleaning etc. going there is a death wish. And they have the audacity to charge 23 euros to enter and 50 euros during Circuit! And don’t even get me started on the thieves, pickpockets etc. A VILE PLACE THAT SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN FOF PUBLIC HEALTH! Avoid it like the plague!!!

Sauna Casanova may be one of the largest saunas in Barcelona, but its current condition is quite disappointing. The facility appears to be poorly maintained, and some areas are approaching the point where visitor safety becomes a concern. The Turkish steam room is particularly problematic. Parts of the seating and floors are missing, exposing raw concrete underneath. This does not create an impression of a well-kept establishment, but rather of one that has been neglected for too long. Hygiene standards are also questionable, as several areas appear worn out and in need of thorough renovation. In addition, some of the sauna doors do not seal properly, which negatively affects the overall experience. The issues observed do not seem to require major investments to address, but essential maintenance and repairs are clearly overdue. This is especially unfortunate because the venue has significant potential due to its size and layout. With a number of relatively modest improvements, it could offer a much more enjoyable and safer environment for its guests. At present, however, the deteriorated condition of certain areas detracts from the overall experience and may even pose an unnecessary risk of injury to visitors.

Expensive, cock roaches, areas under renovation (this was not mentioned on arrival) cold sauna and steam room on upper levels. No maze area and very quiet at 0200hrs on Thursday night Friday morning. Overall disappointing. We expected better from Barcelona no. 1 sauna. We wont be rushing back. Unfortunately.

I will start with the Negatives: •No big size Towels (Means no Bear Friendly)( Body Shaming) It felt very uncomfortable. •No English speaking Receptionist ( I mean Barcelona is full of tourists ) •12€ for the anal-Duche system or you don’t get the key.( to the Manager, believe me there are alternatives to Hygiene systems and cheaper systems) •Not everywhere was clean The cleaning personal took my shoes, so they can not be stolen( that’s good ) but without a notice. I was waiting for friendlier personal. Yes Jacuzzi is big and new but there were rooms that they needed to be fixed. I was really disappointed, I stayed 30mins, paying 25€, no refund of course or some kind of customer policy, not to be dissatisfied. Personally I also found a minus that there were no Glory holes. Next time somewhere else.

I really like going to saunas when I visit a city. I’ve been to ones in Catania, Madrid, Vienna, Seville, Budapest, Krakow… This was the third time I went to Sauna Casanova in 3 years, and I have to give up on this place. I don’t deny that they keep it clean. But the gaps covered with cement, the uneven floors, the stains, the missing tiles in the steam sauna that are patched up with even more cement… nothing has changed at all in 3 years. Both times I went, it wasn’t very busy. I understand that Saturdays are more crowded. But honestly, if you’re like me and you’re thinking of going to a sauna to relax after the day, just give up. Barcelona and Madrid are not the place to go for gay saunas. Leisure works differently in these cities. Go to a bar, a cruising club, or a nightclub — it will be a thousand times better. Paying €23 for this place is completely disproportionate in terms of value for money. I recommend Cube in Seville, Boiler in Berlin, and KAISERBRÜNDL in Vienna.

Theft from Locked Locker – Not Safe- Poor management Customer for 15 years. A personal item disappeared from a locker I had properly locked, within minutes. This happened late on Wednesday night (between Wednesday and Thursday) last week, and the sauna was almost empty. A staff member was the only person present in the area at the time. I reported the incident immediately at reception, but nothing was recorded or followed up. Instead, my behaviour was questioned and I was threatened with being permanently excluded if I insisted. I then sent an email asking to speak with the manager, whom I know quite well. I received no response. I went back in person during the day, today, and the manager gave exactly the same response: again, my behaviour was questioned and I was told I would not be allowed back. What is most striking is that the disappearance itself was not treated as important. Instead, the focus was entirely on my behaviour and what was inside the locker, from the receptionist that night to the manager today, with no attempt to properly record or investigate the incident. This is not how a serious security issue should be handled. There is clearly a problem with locker security and internal procedures. I would strongly advise caution, especially for tourists visiting Barcelona. Based on other reviews, this does not seem to be an isolated case. Very disappointing after 15 years as a customer. Follow up on Casanova sauna management’s response: Long-time customer, but this experience was unacceptable. A personal belonging was taken from my locker while the sauna was nearly empty. The only person present near the lockers at the time was a staff member observing my locker. I reported it immediately at reception. No report was taken, no procedure followed — instead, I was warned that I could be refused entry if I insisted. I sent an email afterward: no response. I came back in person: no investigation, no explanation, same reaction. No incident report, no follow-up, no attempt to review what happened (including CCTV). This is what they refer to as “procedures.” I’ll let others draw their own conclusions.
