Sauna Puerta de Toledo

I enjoyed the sauna. It is very clean and has nice reception. I strongly recommend it.

This place must be one of the best kept secrets in Madrid. I have asked several Madrileño friends of mine and they have never heard of the place, but they don’t know what they are missing. I must admit that its location is a bit difficult to pinpoint though The Puerta del Toledo is a small/medium sized sauna with all facilities including a Jacuzzi and massage. The ‘wet area’ is on the ground floor together with some cubicles and a TV lounge with a cold drinks machine. Up the stairs are two video rooms, a darkroom and a few cubicles. Most of the action is on the first floor and the steam room. The Jacuzzi is one of those awkward ones moulded to take two people lying aside each other, but tends have bathers sitting across the moulding rather that in them – somewhat uncomfortable. When I was visiting, on a hot Thursday afternoon, there were about 11 people attending, mainly from 35 years upwards. I was told that Sunday afternoons can get very busy. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the premises were spotlessly clean.

I was there today and all I can say is: the massagist is rude and the entire place is dirty, dark and empty...

Indeed a small to medium sized sauna with all it needs. A strange moulded jacuzzi, a double finnish sauna, one steam sauna, a darkroom worth its name (dark as hell) and some cabins on ground- and first floor. Cabins have brick beds with a mattress but unfortunately no paper- towels and no cleaning stuff. So you don't know if the cabin has just been cleaned or been used by somebody else. Overall it is warm everywhere so you keep sweating, which is really unpleasant if you want to cool down on the leather- bench... Guests are all older, mostly hairy and have a belly. One 150kg guy asked me if I like lean or fat men, and when I answered "lean" he reacted "then you are in the wrong place, no slim muscle merries here..." Clear statement! Jacuzzi is for five persons but already with three it is full, water splashes over so the area around it is totally wet and soaked, the poor masagist was permanently busy with cleaning. Not only here, but also elsewhere. All in all a sauna for lovers of older hairy men. If you do so, then you are in paradise. If not, then you have to be flexible, close your eyes and let things happen without too much thinking, you are not looking for a prince on the white horse. I will not put this sauna on my favorite- list, but this is just a personal issue and does not reduce the fun one can have here, if you are into that... Enjoy!

Small sauna, men only. I'm updating my previous review because things have changed for the good. Drinks are served, staff is friendly and the spaces are clean.
