The Hole in the Wall is one of San Diego’s longest-running gay bars, offering an old-school neighborhood experience away from the main Hillcrest strip. Its spacious outdoor area is central to the appeal, creating a relaxed setting for drinks, conversation and daytime social events. The crowd is varied and welcoming, with Sunday sessions traditionally drawing the strongest energy. At other times, expect a more easygoing local-bar atmosphere. The venue is not within comfortable walking distance of Hillcrest nightlife, so plan a car or rideshare and check current event times before making the trip.
