The Molly House

We had visited The Molly House a couple of days earlier and thought it was good, but it really came into its own when we returned for food. The vegan selection was excellent, with plenty of choice across the menu. The croquettes were among my favourite dishes for what turned out to be an outstanding meal. Everything we ordered was insanely good and paired perfectly with the excellent wine selection. Our only regret was not coming for food earlier in our stay, as we would happily have worked our way through the menu a second time. A fantastic meal and an easy five stars.

Fantastic pub spread over two floors (with a bar in each) and a rooftop terrace on the edge of the Gay Village. Good choice of local craft and real ales alongside the usual suspects. Comfy sofas, wooden floors and plenty of flowers give a stripped-back vibe. Had a folk music session going upstairs when I was there.

The staff were absolutely lovely and the food was delicious. A delicious selection of tapas with lots of interesting ingredients and twists on classics. Great selection of beer and wine as well and all for a great price!

I discovered The Molly House one afternoon in Manchester — by pure chance — and what followed was a genuine revelation. As a former chef myself, well-versed in fine dining, it’s not easy to impress me — especially with simple ingredients. But here, simplicity was elevated to perfection. Every dish carried refinement and heart in equal measure. The food was spectacular: slow-cooked pork cheeks that melted into pure bliss (among the best I’ve ever had), tender roasted chicken infused with garlic, delicate shrimp pearls bursting with flavor, crisp breaded green olives, and soft white cabbage dressed with pesto and paprika — which unexpectedly became my absolute favorite, even ahead of the pork cheeks. It was my Ratatouille moment — that rare instant when taste and memory collide, when a meal becomes an experience. In a new city, I didn’t expect to find such warmth and authenticity, both on the plate and among the people. The gentleman behind the bar took his time to explain every beer with genuine enthusiasm and deep knowledge — a small gesture that made a big impression. My heartfelt thanks to the chef and the bartender for their care, passion, and dedication — you turned an ordinary afternoon into something truly special. The Molly House is truly like a Michelin-star gay bar where amazing food is also served. The wine list is extensive as is the list of spirits and ales. But what most impresses me is what on the food menu : creative and delicious tapas. Bravo to James who has created a venue beyond anything else in Manchester’s Gay Village.
