Just a warning for anyone heading out to watch the Scotland-Brazil game on Wednesday in Inverness. The Tooth & Claw — which used to be the friendly Eagle Bar — has completely changed under its current manager. We were in town on Friday for the Scotland-Morocco match on our way down to the Fan Zone at the Aquadome and nipped in for a drink on our way when we were told to leave simply for having our national flags wrapped around us. The majority of people on Friday night had their Scottish shirts, flags and tartans on! His pompous explanation was that national colours “cause fighting”, which is nonsense when the whole of Scotland is proudly supporting their team with pride and certainly without trouble. What really highlights the double standard is that the pub is covered in rainbow flags. So flags are fine — just not our national ones. If you’re looking for a welcoming place to enjoy the atmosphere in town and show a bit of pride, avoid this bar. It’s nothing like the Eagle Bar it once was.
