About VERS

VERS is a queer-owned and operated cocktail bar on Ninth Avenue in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen. Open since 2022, it offers a polished alternative to the traditional neighbourhood gay bar while retaining a welcoming, sociable atmosphere for New York’s wider LGBTQ+ community. The venue centres on inventive cocktails and refined bar food served in a carefully designed space featuring colourful lighting, an Italian marble-topped bar, a large video wall and a raised performance stage. Earlier hours are well suited to after-work drinks, meeting friends, dates or refreshments before and after a Broadway show. Entertainment runs throughout the week and can include drag, cabaret, live singing, piano nights, DJs, themed parties, trivia and other queer performances. The atmosphere therefore varies by evening, ranging from relaxed cocktails and conversation to energetic late-night entertainment and dancing. VERS welcomes walk-in customers, although groups of six or more are encouraged to contact the venue in advance. Friday and Saturday nights remain open later and can become particularly busy. Check the official events calendar before visiting, as performers, tickets and the style of entertainment change regularly.

What to expect

A polished but friendly queer cocktail bar with comfortable seating, creative drinks, food and a dedicated performance stage. Earlier visits are generally relaxed, while shows, DJs and weekend parties create a livelier atmosphere.

I had a great time at Vers Bar! The atmosphere was vibrant, welcoming, and perfect for a night out. The music was great, the drinks were well made, and the overall vibe made it easy to relax and have fun. The staff was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout the night. Everyone made us feel welcome, and the service was quick even when the bar was busy. If you’re looking for a fun place to enjoy good drinks, great music, and a fantastic atmosphere in Manhattan, I highly recommend Vers Bar. I’ll definitely be back!

Even though they showed me the happy hour menu during happy hour, I wasn't given a voucher for a second drink. It’s ridiculous! The whole happy hour menu setup is nonsense! I go to Rise Bar and have never encountered anything like this! Please warn the bartenders about this! If the goal is just to get more money, customers like me won't come back! How can a drink listed on the happy hour menu not be included in the happy hour offer? It’s absurd!

Fun. Friendly. This would be my neighborhood bar if it was in Palm Springs. Came in for a quick drink before a show. Ended up back after the show because I wanted to make sure the dirty martini was as good non happy hour as it was during...yes! The piano player has a QR code for song requests. Local singers from Broadway shows pop in to sing. Amazing singing to live music and the DJ actually knows the vibe and audience.

Best gay bar in NYC! Love the variety of cocktails and the atmosphere! The staff were all super friendly, and excited to visit here again when I’m back in town. Definitely recommend the piano party on Mondays.

If you’re anywhere near NYC and craving a queer space that feels intentional, welcoming, and actually fun, VERS is a standout. It manages to hit that sweet spot between a cozy neighborhood bar and a destination queer venue. The cocktails are thoughtfully built (not just vodka + vibes), the snack menu is perfect for sharing, and the event lineup keeps things dynamic—drag nights, themed parties, and community-focused gatherings that don’t feel forced. The atmosphere leans modern and inclusive rather than divey, which is refreshing for a smaller city. You’ll see a mix of locals, visitors, longtime LGBTQ+ folks, and curious allies, and the energy stays warm instead of cliquey. Staff are engaged, quick, and genuinely friendly, which sets the tone the moment you walk in. What makes VERS work is its sense of purpose: it’s not just a bar that happens to be queer—it’s a queer space first, built around connection, expression, and a good time. Whether you’re going for cocktails with friends or showing up solo to meet people, it feels like a place where you can exhale and just exist openly.
