BACKDOOR.BKK is one of the more gloriously unclassifiable stops in Bangkok gay nightlife. Hidden down Silom Soi 2/1 beside G Bangkok, the five-floor queer venue starts with a 24-hour café and cocktail bar downstairs, then gets progressively less innocent as you climb: KinkyBKK darkroom on the second floor, A.S.S. Art Space above it, and late-night club spaces higher up. If you are searching for a gay club in Bangkok that does more than circuit beats and bottle service, this is the kind of place where a coffee, an art event, techno and a very different sort of after-party can all happen under the same roof. The programming is deliberately unpredictable. BACKDOOR.BKK hosts DJs, techno parties, drag, queer cinema, live nude drawing, shibari workshops and kink events, while some big nights activate several floors with cruising or underwear-focused spaces. That makes it one of the more adventurous entries in Silom nightlife: sexy when the event calls for it, cultural when it wants to be, and often somewhere between the two. The crowd mixes Bangkok regulars with international LGBTQ+ travellers, and the smartest move is to check @backdoor.bkk before you go — the ground-floor café/bar is the constant, but what is happening upstairs can completely change the night.

One building, several versions of a queer night out. Drop in downstairs for coffee or cocktails, or arrive later for techno and whatever the night has activated upstairs. On major parties the building can feel like a vertical club crawl, with dance floors, art and darker spaces all operating at once.

Practical tips before you visit

The ground-floor café/bar is promoted as 24/7, but the club, darkroom and upper floors operate according to the event schedule — check @backdoor.bkk before travelling specifically for them.

Many ticketed nights are 20+ and some kink or underwear events have their own dress codes and entry rules.

The KinkyBKK darkroom is on the 2nd floor, but access and programming vary by night rather than being guaranteed at all times.

There are a lot of stairs across the five-floor building and some are steep or dimly lit late at night.

BACKDOOR.BKK is next to G Bangkok and close to DJ Station, so it is easy to work into a wider Silom gay nightlife crawl.

The music and the atmosphere inside are extremely fun, and the prices are quite reasonable. If you’re looking to enjoy delicious cocktails and have a great time, I’d say give this place a try. It’s definitely one of the places I’m planning to visit again on my next trip.

I went with some friends for a techno party and it was an amazing experience! The staff was kind and welcoming and the spaces are really safe and clean The prices for drinks are quite expensive though

I am highly disappointed. I used to come here when it was still Rush and had great nights. But now it's become a bad place. Rush was doing an amazing job in introducing sth new to Bangkok, more Berlin vibes. And now Backdoor is Piggybacking in a bad way. It was a special weekend and the tickets were super expensive to begin with. 800 Baht for one evening including 2 drinks , that is what they said on the poster. And I wrote to them before on instagram and asked about the darkroom and they said it was open! Then I arrived and they said it is not open. Then some westerner came and said they might open a bit later. All to make me buy the ticket. Not only wasn't it 2 drinks included but 400 Baht in drinks voucher and a normal Gin Tonic was already 250! So I would have had to pay even 10p extra for a second which I refused out of principle because it was a lie. And rhe second lie was that they never opened the dark room. I accept if things change and them it is up to people to prove whether it is a good change or not. But lying is unacceptable. Simply bad. Oh and the vibes were also bad, obviously. Almost no thai local will go there now

First of all it is interesting that it is opened 24/7. I was there by accident to find a place to chill and work. Open as a cafe in the morning and bar/club at night! This place is epic! Staffs r friendly and helpful! 😊
