About Café Lafitte in Exile
Café Lafitte in Exile is woven into New Orleans queer history, tracing its story back to the end of Prohibition and welcoming generations of locals, writers and visitors. Today the draw is both historic and immediate: drinks downstairs, extra space upstairs and a balcony made for watching Bourbon Street roll by. It works as a daytime curiosity, an early-evening meet-up or a late-night stop, with major celebration weekends turning the surrounding streets electric. Come for the landmark, then stay because it still feels like a living bar rather than a museum piece.
What to expect
A historic, unpretentious gay bar with upstairs and downstairs areas, balcony people-watching and a mix of locals and visitors.
