About Friendly Society

Tucked away in the vibrant heart of Soho, Friendly Society is a gem in London's gay bar scene, offering a quirky and unforgettable experience. Entering through a nondescript alleyway, visitors are greeted by a world of whimsy and fun beneath the streets. The bar's decor is nothing short of magical, featuring Barbie dolls suspended from the ceiling and vintage films projected onto walls, creating an atmosphere that's both kitschy and inviting. The venue is renowned for its laid-back vibe and welcoming ambiance, where the crowd is as diverse as it is lively. Here, everyone, regardless of gender or sexuality, is embraced, fostering a sense of inclusive community. Friendly Society is the perfect spot for those looking to dance the night away to classic disco hits, with DJs frequently spinning favorites from Donna Summer and other disco legends. The cocktail menu, while compact, is filled with imaginative options, and the staff add to the charm with their friendly, albeit sometimes perplexed, service when you order a drink. One of the standout features of Friendly Society is its ability to combine a fun, energetic dance floor with the coziness of a local bar. Visitors often praise the delicious cocktails, notably fresh mojitos and martinis, which add an extra touch of sophistication to the casual, funky environment. Whether you're starting your night out in Soho or looking for a place to spend the entire evening, Friendly Society offers a unique blend of charm, energy, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it a must-visit location in London's gay nightlife.

Used to be a great quirky bar. Cool because most people didn't know about it ... but it seems the owners have gone a bit too commercial - went there last weekend. No beer on tap and £5.50 for a bottle of Singha beer. Crazy!

This is often missed due to being hidden and accessed by a small door leading into an 80s vibe bar. Its name is a giveaway you will not find a more welcoming place. The drinks are generously poured. Worth a visit just to see the barbie dolls on the ceiling!

You have to check this place out! Their name says it all. My partner and I have visited multiple times whenever we are in London. Maria and her staff make you feel right at home. The ambiance and vibe is something you need to see to experience. Kinda retro, kinda tiki, kinda secret underground club. It’s so unique and unlike any other place we’ve been before. The drink menu has many different options ranging from house cocktails to personal requests. It’s safe to say we will return the next time we are back in London.

4.5 Nice little cocktail bar. Less than a dozen different cocktails, but high-quality, fresh ingredients. Interior is wild, hard to describe really. Located in a basement a little hidden in the midst of Soho. Queer-friendly, divers mixed crowd. Can be quite crowded on the weekends. Friendly staff. Worth a visit.

HRH Maria Super Soul Hub continues to impress, never failing to surprise with its standout style, signature sounds, and superior, smash-hit cocktails. It’s a place where the past, present, and future of unpretentious nights out meet effortlessly—enduring through every season, every storm. A precious jewel at the very heart and soul of London’s vibrant Soho scene.

Such a lovely setting. Very welcoming owner! I went three nights in a row during pride. It was my first time in the UK from Canada and I will never forget this place. I brought a guy there and he was so impressed especially with the conversation pit. Thoroughly enjoyed the bitter slag cocktail and the bartenders were more than accommodating to make me some whiskey sours as well. Highly recommend.
