About King's Arms

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Soho, King's Arms stands out as a legendary spot in London's gay scene. Known affectionately as 'London's favourite bear bar,' this establishment has a rich history, having transitioned from a 'gentlemen’s bar' in the 1970s to an officially recognized gay bar in 1981. Its legacy continues to thrive, making it a must-visit for both locals and tourists alike. King's Arms exudes an old-school, cozy charm that might remind you of a country pub, yet it's unmistakably urban and buzzing with energy. The bar is particularly popular with a stocky, hairy, beardy crowd, embodying the true spirit of a bear den. However, it's the welcoming atmosphere that really sets it apart – everyone is welcome here, regardless of how they identify. Entertainment here is as varied as its patrons. From the legendary Bearaoke nights that have been a hit for over 20 years, to midweek quiz nights, cabaret shows, Dragaoke, and LGBTQIA+ open-mic nights, there's something for everyone. The weekends are especially lively, featuring guest and resident DJs spinning everything from disco to house and electro beats. And if you're a sports fan, don't be surprised to find live sporting events being screened too. Located just a five-minute stroll from Old Compton Street, the King's Arms is more than just a bar – it's a vibrant slice of London's gay history, a place where memories are made, and a beacon of inclusivity in the heart of the city.

I visited this place twice. The first time it was my first visit and the bar was rather quiet, just a normal day. I had a drink while waiting for a friend and everything was fine. The second time was not a pleasant experience for me. The karaoke was extremely loud and since the place is quite small, the noise level was overwhelming. I couldn't stay longer than about five minutes. also didn't feel very welcomed by one of the bartenders when I ordered a drink. The interaction felt unfriendly to me. I'm not expecting staff to be my friends, but basic politeness is always appreciated. The younger staff member, however, was smiling and seemed much more friendly. Unfortunately, based on this experience I personally would not return.

Well established gay pub just off Oxford Street, attracts a good mix of people from all walks of life, not just the LGBTQ+ crowd. Sing your hearts out at Jivin Julies legendary Bearaoke on a Sunday night.

Drinks were ok. Was very excited to try, at the recommendation of London friends, The atmosphere was lively although extremely crowded. We arrived an hour and 45 minutes before closing and I asked the lady hosting karaoke if I could put in a song- she literally turned and laughed at me so I guess you have to get there at 7:30 in order to sing. No idea how she could have had another hour and 45 minutes worth of singers cued up, but no worries. Lots of other pubs and bars to go to as a tourist without having to be treated so rudely as a paying guest. First and last visit

Karaoke on sundays is the best night out in London. I'm biased as I've been going for years since I first discovered it. The Kings Arms is a friendly and relaxed pub with great staff and punters. On sundays it can become a spiritual experience, when everyone comes together in joyous singing and dancing ( usually after several pints). A big gay bear singalong, what more could you ask for. The wonderful Jiving Julie who does the karaoke, is a great dj so there is excellent music between a great variety of singers. Worth staying until the end as it gets better the more people have drank. Other dj nights at weekends are also good fun. My favorite bar by a million miles.

WOW! What a night; Best pub time for a long time. Loved the vibe, the beer, and the music. Very cozy. Tom, the barkeeper, was great (Thanks again for the good beer recommendations).
