About Michael's Outpost

Michael Gaitz opened Michael’s Outpost in 1998. It was taken over by his sister Theresa upon his death in 2011, who remodeled and added the early evening drag shows. It is now under the watch of his brother Charles and wife Denise and run by his niece Tonya. We are the only gay piano bar in the Houston area, offering different pianists 4 nights a week. Everything from showtunes to pop and some country. We also are proud to offer our Caberet atmosphere as we present professional drag entertainers 4 nights a week. We also have karaoke once a week with great hosts and participants. Our professional bartenders are fast, fun, courteous, attentive, and serve the best refreshing beverages and bar snacks in the area. The crowd varies according to times and days of the week both in number and in ages. A nice relaxed happy hour spot followed by pumped up energy at night.

Nice little place definitely. It seems like a local watering hole. Everyone was very friendly and the drinks were good and strong!

Bartender put up a ‘Reserved’ sign on the table to get me to leave- while I was still sitting on it. I’d been there little over an hour, had plans, was just waiting minding my own business. Felt odd and targeted, but judging by their many empty seats on a Saturday I’m sure they won’t miss my business. Plenty of room to reserve.

I had an awful experience there with micheal booth ... I walk in like any guest he told me to sit away from me and not order drinks from him... I ignore it as a joke since I thought we were friends .. I got a drink from him and had a nice conversation with his bf brian about musicals .. Im from Chicago and grew up on musicals. I even met many artist in Chicago so I was so happy to visit micheal outpost... micheal booth went out of his way to be an instigator and tell me his friend brian was very uncomfortable of me and i should leave ... I had a 15 min conversation with brian on musicals im still confused why micheal became Regina George and would instigate drama like that. To this day im not sure why micheal booth would tell me why Lana or brian talk about me... its bad for business and for their tips.. ever since that day I would not return. Brian was there he should be an adult and say it was wrong... micheal booth is not Regina geroge nor should he treat his job as a playground. Its not his business and the owners should be aware .. thats business out of their pockets... its never ok for staff to mistreat guest

I’m so happy I found this hidden gem ❤️ The energy was amazing, music was great, performances were fun, and Honey B was hilarious! Definitely would come back again and bring even more people ☺️ I made Saturday night reservations in advance (it was packed but I loved it). No cover required but pleaseeee bring cash to tip the amazing performers and bartenders ❤️ I especially loved how the show started at 7:30pm and not super late like a lot of others.

Wonderful live singing, piano, on certain nights, and friendly service and crowd! Will definitely be back except the drab grey walls could stand some decor and refresh.
