If you’re looking for a spot in Copenhagen that feels like a warm hug with a side of great people-watching, Oscars Bar & Café at Regnbuepladsen is the one. Located right in the heart of the city near City Hall, it’s a legendary LGBTQ+-friendly staple that manages to be both a lively social hub and a chilled-out retreat. The first thing you’ll notice is the atmosphere. It’s unpretentious and genuinely welcoming. Whether you’re sitting inside amidst the cozy, classic café decor or snagging a coveted table on the terrace, the energy is consistently ‘hygge.’ It’s the kind of place where you can spend three hours nursing a coffee and a book, or kick off a big night out with a round of cocktails. The menu is a solid mix of Danish comfort and café classics. Based on my visits their burgers and club sandwiches are hearty and reliable. As are the excellent coffee for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, but as the sun goes down, the cocktails take over. They are well-poured, fairly priced for Copenhagen, and served by a team that’s famously friendly and quick with a recommendation. What earns 5-stars is the service. In a city that can sometimes feel a bit ‘cool and detached,’ the staff here are a breath of fresh air; chatty, inclusive, and efficient. If the weather is even remotely decent, sit outside. Regnbuepladsen (Rainbow Square) is a beautiful, open space with a great view of the city’s architecture and a fantastic cross-section of Copenhagen life passing by. Whether you're part of the community or an ally, Oscars is a soulful, must-visit landmark. Definitely a highlight of my trip! If this was helpful, please ‘Like’!
