I decided to visit Slammers Club LA, a venue that markets itself as an adult entertainment space and LGBTQ+-friendly cruising spot near downtown Los Angeles. But being nearly five miles from West Hollywood’s vibrant LGBTQ+ scene — where transportation can already be a challenge — makes it feel disconnected and overly commercial. Prices & Charges The entry price for non-members is a very steep $37, compared to $25 charged to members. The venue accepts credit or debit cards only. There’s also a mandatory $1 locker charge if you want to store your belongings for safekeeping. They also charge a $5 re-entry charge if you want to step outside the front of yhe building — even for an emergency. You must pay a fee before leaving and receive a hand stamp if you want to return to the venue. Altogether, the entry fees and additional charges make the so-called “Slammers experience” feel far more transactional than welcoming. The Venue The “industrial-warehouse” aesthetic doesn’t hold up: dirty floors, neglected bathrooms, and overall poor upkeep undercut the vibe. Staff seemed disengaged, and there wasn’t much sense of comfort or connection within the space. Atmosphere Overall, the atmosphere feels cold, clinical, and transactional — not inviting or liberating. At times, it felt more like wandering through an industrial cattle market under watchful eyes than a welcoming LGBTQ+ cruising venue. Overall You’ll likely find a more authentic community and friendlier energy at other LGBTQ+ bars and clubs just five miles away in West Hollywood.
