About The George

The George, nestled on South Great George's Street in Dublin, has been a cornerstone of the city's LGBTQ+ scene since 1985. As one of Ireland's oldest and most renowned gay bars, it offers a welcoming space for both locals and visitors. The venue features two distinct areas: 'Bridie's Bar,' a cozy spot favored by an older crowd, and a lively club space that hosts regular drag performances and themed nights. Notable drag artists like Shirley Temple Bar, Veda, and Davina Devine frequently grace the stage, providing entertainment that ranges from karaoke to bingo sessions. Admission varies throughout the week, with free entry from Monday to Thursday, a €10 charge after 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and a €5 fee after 9 pm on Sundays.

Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Gernard was very knowledgeable and pleasant. We really enjoyed the Niçoise salad and the blackened Tuna with Haricots verts. Great date night with the wife.

Super safe positive atmosphere/vibes. Came early on a Sunday and it was pretty lowkey with great vibes which was perfect. Drinks were about 6-9 euros each (cocktails/shots/mixed drinks). Phenomenal staff!

Great vibes, went on a Monday night and there was great live performances. Locals lovely and easy to talk to too, the place had a great buzz about it for a weekday!

Bouncer at the door with messy curly hair and septum piercing was the weirdest encounter I have ever had at a gay bar. Was weird about me having one drink at my hotel room and then wouldn’t let my friend in for only having Id from her student website as she didn’t have a physical card. The rest of us were also 24 with id so don’t see what the issue was. Got into pawn shop and other bars no bother. Very weird attitude for a supposedly inclusive place. Men who are on a power trip are guarding the door.

Security staff definitely need better training on how to deal with the public that frequents this venue. Security approached one of my friends in an extremely rude, disrespectful and unnecessary manner simply because he was walking across the dance floor holding a drink. He did not stop to dance. There is no clear signage or staff informing people about this rule. My friend is one of the kindest, most gentle and respectful people I know. He was not being disruptive or rude in any way, which makes the aggressive approach even more unnecessary. I have lived in Dublin for years and, for reasons like this, I usually avoid this place. I was only there because of a birthday celebration. Rules may exist, but there is a clear lack of professionalism and respect in the way they are enforced. The LGBTQIA+ community goes out at night seeking welcoming and safe spaces. We already experience enough hostility in the outside world. Within these spaces, the minimum we should expect is respect and dignity. Very disappointing experience
