About Wild Rose Bar

Nestled in the vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, The Wildrose stands out not just as a bar, but as a cherished institution within the LGBTQ+ community. Celebrated as the oldest lesbian bar in the United States, The Wildrose has been serving the queer community since its inception on New Year's Eve 1984. This iconic venue has not only withstood the test of time but has evolved to meet the needs of its patrons while preserving its rich heritage and inclusive ethos. In the face of challenges, including the dire impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Wildrose demonstrated resilience and adaptability. A crowdfunding effort underscored the community's support, raising significant funds to help keep the bar afloat during these uncertain times. This act of collective backing highlights The Wildrose's vital role as a safe haven and social hub for the LGBTQ+ community in Seattle. The bar's offerings have expanded over the years to include a diverse menu crafted by new chef Mahogany Williams, featuring traditional bar bites alongside more inventive fare. This culinary refresh, aimed at enhancing the overall guest experience, signifies the owners' dedication to creating a welcoming space where patrons can enjoy good food, engaging events, and each other's company.

So cold. I went on a Tuesday night and I was freezing. Not sure if they don't have a heater or don't run it or were, but it doesn't do anything? Basic bar. Decent atmosphere. I like all the art they have up and the chairs were pretty comfortable. Decent vibe. I'd be interested to see how it was on a weekend with dancing and more people. Drinks were on the smaller side (lots of ice) but pricey.

Good vibes, feels cozy and safe... except when it gets busy and the dancing starts. The weird gawker straight men come crawling out of the sewers to leer at dykes and covertly touch their pants. Wish they were big enough to have pool tables somewhere. Also the dance playlists could include like, any lesbian artists. At all.

I really wish the weekend bouncer would stop making comments to the community (e.g. gay males) It's disheartening that you are reminded this isn't a "gay" bar and don't feel welcome. They have an all gender restroom and it sucks to feel like the community (myself) and many of my friends want to support Wild Rose and you are reprimanded for being an ally. The very history of inclusion and acceptance should be respected for all identities. This is the third or fourth experience I've had with the same bouncer and it really sucks to not feel included in a community that is suppose to be a safe place for people like me.

Each time I go to this bar I'm a bit more disappointed. The last two times there were a bunch of men in there, even though it's a lesbian bar, therefore, ruining the entire vibe of the place and making it no longer a safe place. One of the things that upsent me the most though is I was there last night and it was going well until I went to go back inside. The girl at the front taking the money for the cover charge was talking to another employee and I smiled at her and flashed her the stamp on my wrist and kept walking in. Apparently she didn't see the stamp and instead of saying something to me like a normal person, she grabbed a fistful of my shawl as I walked by. Not even lightly. I was walking and when she grabbed it I felt it yank against me And against my throat because it was a heavy shawl that hangs off of your shoulders and neck, not an actual coat. Absolutely not okay to put your hands on people like that.

The drinks and food are great and the Wednesday trivia hosted by Brandon/RaisedbyTV is EVERYTHING! Love supporting my local lesbian bar 🫶🏻
