Boate La Cueva

Very friendly community vibe in this little neighborhood bar (one of the oldest gay bars in Rio, apparently). My partner and I enjoyed people watching and mingling with a diverse and down-to-earth crowd. It skews older & friendlier than your average ‘polished’ nightclub. The headcount picked up steeply around 12am. We left around 2.

Fun little place... no doubt disco still have room and place. Good video clips, music, sound... good and loud enough to dance. Some men still shy to dance or missed the time but was enough for me to remember the Copacabana of the good night clubs time (almost felt I was at the great SOTAO) will be back.

My spouse and I had a blast here! Started in lounge area where the bartender made a great cocktail, and after we moved to the discotheque side- we danced until 4am! Body positivity all around, but still a mostly fit crowd, everyone seemed to feel seen and validated on the dance floor. Great to be in a judgment- free zone. And the cave esthetic was marvelous too.

I paid R50 to enter. It's a small cave bar & disco with a nice looking 45+ crowd. Music videos from the 70's, 80's & 90's are streamed throughout the place. The odd thing was that the people there seemed to be avoiding each other, standing shoulder to shoulder at the edge of the dance floor, but seemingly afraid to get on it and dance. The patrons watch the videos and look like they'd like to dance, but seem too self-concious to do so. These guys have forgotten how to let loose and have fun, so I went on the dance floor to get things started. Maybe no one wanted to be first. The reaction I got was like I came from another planet. The vibe was too weird, so I left after 30 minutes.
