About Colombian

The Colombian Hotel is an iconic LGBTQ+ friendly multi-level bar, hotel and entertainment venue on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Spanning four levels, it offers a range of spaces including a ground-floor public bar with street-facing windows that open onto the Oxford Street strip, a bright terrace for people watching, a cocktail lounge for intimate conversations, and a rooftop bar with sweeping city views. The venue’s long opening hours—officially open every day from 9 AM through to 6 AM the following morning—make it one of the few places in Sydney where patrons can dance and socialise late into the night. On weekends the doors stay open continuously from Friday morning until Monday at 6 AM, making it effectively “24/3,” as the owners say, so you can drop in for morning coffee, afternoon beers or a midnight cocktail at any time. Entertainment is at the heart of the Colombian, and weekly programming includes drag shows featuring celebrated queens, trivia nights, music bingo, live DJ sets spanning pop, disco and house, and occasional rooftop parties. The hotel is a hub for Sydney’s LGBTQ+ community and regularly partners with local charities and events; it’s a prominent venue during the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and hosts after‑parades, viewing parties and meet‑ups. The interior design nods to Latin American influences with vibrant colours, neon lighting and cheeky artworks, reflecting the Colombian’s roots as a Latin‑inspired venue when it first opened in the late 1990s. Over the years it has become a Darlinghurst institution beloved by locals and visitors for its inclusive atmosphere, friendly staff and flexible spaces. Whether you want to relax with friends, dance until sunrise, watch a drag show or host a private function, the Colombian Hotel offers a welcoming space. This listing reflects its current operations as of December 2025.

Came to Sydney for New Year's Eve and found this bar, had an amazing time here and the staff were really friendly too. We will definitely be back here the weekend

I had booked to have my birthday (with 20 guests coming) on the rooftop. I arrived and they told us we had no booking, they tried to say we didn’t confirm so they didn’t honour the booking and weren’t giving us tables. We had in writing our confirmation, so showed them. They weren’t apologetic about the mistake and said “well you can have the tables for 2 hours but then have to leave as another party has booked it”. After being there for only an hour and 15 mins they came over and said the other party had arrived early therefore we have to leave (even though we had a booking). We refused as only a few people from that party had arrived and it was my birthday party as well. They came over 10 mins later and made us leave which at this point I just got my friends and did leave the rooftop as I was already so over it and so upset. No real apology or anything. The other party was a lot bigger and it seems they purposely didn’t honour my booking to take the larger one. I’m so angry and upset about what happened. I was celebrating my birthday and had planned it for weeks and got forced out after less than 2 hours. With constant disruptions by staff trying to get me to leave in the less than 2 hours I was up there. Really upset and disappointed. Not okay.

Claims to be open until 6am but rarely will let you in after 4am. Security guards are the rudest security I've seen on Oxford street, act like your a problem or annoying just for showing up. I've previously waited over 15minutes to be served at the bar when it's quiet because they don't seem to acknowledge you unless you're obviously gay. Staff never seem happy or friendly, overall just not a great vibe always disappointed with service and feel very unwelcoming and unfriendly. As a femme gay woman I always feel very unwelcome at this venue.

Hadn't been here for a while came back it has been revamped. Thoroughly enjoyed the roof top bar, its energy and vibe. Nice mixed group, good cocktails. They had live entertainment which that night was a saxophone player. Love the new look they've gone with, it'll be good as social outings become more popular after winter.

Draggieokie at the Colombian was one of my favorite parts of the week. It was so much fun and brought the community together in a way that's hard to put into words. I'm so disappointed that it was cut without anything being said by the venue. Dakota and the rest of the drag queens who worked so hard to put this event on were amazing and I will miss seeing them each week. I personally will not be going back to the Colombian unless they decide to bring karaoke back.
