About The Oxford

Standing proudly on Oxford Street for more than a century, The Oxford Hotel in Darlinghurst is one of Sydney’s most iconic LGBTQ+‑friendly pubs and nightlife destinations. Spread across four distinct levels, it offers something for everyone: the ground‑floor Oxford Bar and bistro spills out onto a spacious terrace that’s perfect for people‑watching and casual dining; the intimate Ginger’s cocktail lounge on level 1 mixes creative drinks in a relaxed setting; the Polo Lounge upstairs hosts private functions and special events; and the basement Oxford Underground pumps late into the night with DJs, live bands and drag shows. As a cornerstone of the Oxford Street gay scene, The Oxford Hotel is renowned for its inclusive atmosphere and packed entertainment calendar. Regular events include drag queen bingo, trivia, music bingo, themed dance parties and DJ sets that keep the dance floor moving until the early hours. The venue’s extended trading hours—open 10 AM–4 AM Sunday to Thursday and 10 AM–6 AM Friday and Saturday—make it a favourite for night owls and a hub during the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, when it hosts parades, viewing parties and community fund‑raisers. With its heritage façade, colourful interior and friendly team, The Oxford Hotel blends historic charm with modern hospitality to create a memorable experience for locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re looking for a laid‑back meal, craft cocktails, live entertainment or a late‑night dance floor, The Oxford Hotel delivers the quintessential Oxford Street nightlife experience in the heart of Darlinghurst.

Last night I came for a spectacular spicy mango margherita, however today I ordered the same cocktail but they served me something different. I assumed it was the same cocktail but served differently, so I tasted it and it definitely wasn't the same. I told the Asian guy at the bar that it wasn't what I had ordered and he got very upset. He started banging things on the table in a fit of rage and reluctantly gave me the cocktail. He didn't even respond when I said thank you. It didn't taste exactly like last night's either, but it was a little closer. People like that aren't fit to serve customers. I never want that guy to serve me again...

Chris the bartender was an absolute legend! Made us feel so welcome and knew our order after only one round! Don’t find staff like him often these days but he is killing it! Thankyou for an amazing night Chris! DJ Shane was awesome too! 10/10 recommendations for this place! ❤️

Tried ordering food but was greeted by the vaguest expression any staff member could possibly have. After about 5 minutes he clicked what we wanted but we were told by another staff member who by chance overheard that it's too early to order food (by 6 minutes). We waited the 6 minutes to order, then waited another 25 minutes for the food to come out. This in itsself was a different experience. We sat at table 11 and watched the waiter walk past our table 3 times, staring into the distance, not having a clue where table 11 was. He walked out to where the markets were, asked the glassy eyed vague expression staff member but even HE did not know where table 11 was. We had to wait for the next round of "find the right table" before we could flag down the waiter to get our (by then) luke warm food. We then noticed that instead or the sauces we ordered we both got some sort of gravy instead. Not a very good experience, especially not for first timers to Sydney. We had much better service at Stonewall.

Love this pub - great vibe! Nice staff members, very friendly. Great food options (not much vegetarian options though- very few sadly). Wide range of great cocktails. I go there very often and particularly sitting outside is a great place for a lazy Sunday. Highly recommend!

Update to my review below "So just paid $29 for a starter size pasta. Talk about a rip off. Never again will I purchase food here. Service was slow and unfriendly #oxfordhotel" The venue is great, staff are fantastic, best trivia in Sydney. If you are thinking of food at this venue, DON'T, over past months the kitchen was outsourced and the quality has gone downhill. Tonight ordered a rump steak medium rare and it was served over cooked, asked for chips and vegetables, no vegetables in the venue. Meal was served with salad. The kitchen has taken some staples off the menu. Sorry to say until the kitchen changes operator's I will not be back for food
