About Equator Bar Birmingham

Equator is the palate cleanser of Birmingham Gay Village: a friendly Hurst Street bar that has been part of the LGBTQ+ community for more than 20 years, but has never needed a giant dancefloor or 4am closing time to make itself useful. The room is warm, stylish and intimate, with soft seating, a broad drinks selection and the sort of atmosphere where arriving alone does not feel remotely awkward. For anyone looking for a relaxed gay bar in Birmingham, an early-evening drink before the clubs or somewhere in Birmingham LGBTQ+ nightlife where you can actually hear your date, Equator is one of the best bets on Hurst Street. Weekdays are mellow and sociable; Friday and Saturday have more buzz but still feel like a bar rather than a nightclub.

What to expect

A comfortable, conversation-friendly LGBTQ+ bar with more of a local-lounge feel than a club. Good for solo drinks, dates and starting a Gay Village night early.

We came here as a spur of the moment whilst out shopping and we stayed here most of the evening!! Sean the barman was funny, friendly and approachable. The drinks were delicious. I had a couple of cocktails. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the people were welcoming and easy to talk to. We spent most of the evening talking to a couple of guys with Carla the dog (beautiful dog too. So friendly) and a man named Jim. I wish I had gotten Jim's contact details as we got on so well it would have been good to keep in contact and become friends. We had such a laugh my partner and myself, this is our go to place next time we're in the gay village.

Great little bar with a fantastic atmosphere that makes you want to stay all night. The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall experience. Drinks are reasonably priced, so it’s excellent value for money too. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a relaxed and enjoyable night out.

Had a great night at Equator Bar Birmingham on Saturday. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with a really good crowd. Drinks were well made and reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly and quick even when it got busy. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time and just enjoy yourself. Will definitely be back for another night out.
