JR’s Bar & Grill

We stumbled upon JR’s after trying to get into Sue Ellen’s. No cover at the door is always a nice touch. The crowd was diverse and the chill atmosphere made it better than any of its competitors in the area. JR’s instantly became my favorite because of the double floors and downtown/Oak Lawn balcony views. Overall it was a good, chill experience for a Saturday night. The drinks were also a hit. Best of all, it’s located in a neighborhood so we didn’t have to pay for parking unless we wanted too (and who wants to pay for parking?!).

What this neighborhood bar lacks in Bacon certainly makes up for in personality I been going here for years and honestly the best local watering hole in the area … all are welcome and the staff are easy on the eyes… Even when “bacon gate” started our Bartender- Taylor was more then accommodating with other option likes the Eric Nuggets …. Coming to find out they were all out of them as well…. Guess I am not that much of trend setter if I am ordering all the popular items … In all it was a great time and defiantly will be back with my people … 1 person visiting from Houston 1 moved here from East Texas and me and my friend from Chicago Stay loud and Proud JRs ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜💘

I visited Jr’s on a Sunday afternoon with a couple of friends. This is a typical gay bar and one of the busiest and biggest on Cedar Springs. I’ve been here a few times because my gay friends enjoy it. We decided to hang out upstairs on the terrace. I have a couple of critiques about the place. First, the music was very loud, making it difficult to have a conversation with friends. If you’re planning to catch up or chat, it can be quite challenging due to the noise level. Second, I found the drinks to be a little overpriced compared to the decor and service. While the atmosphere is lively and the terrace offers a nice view, the pricing doesn’t quite match the overall experience in terms of value. Despite these points, I had a great experience overall. The bar has a vibrant and energetic ambiance that makes it a fun spot to hang out. The terrace was a nice place to relax and enjoy the company of friends. If you’re looking for a lively gay bar with a bustling crowd, Jr’s is definitely worth a visit, even if it comes with a few minor drawbacks.

While the bar tending staff and the patrons are nice, the manager makes an absolute mockery of what is meant to be an inclusive space. As a person who uses a wheelchair, JR fails to meet accessibility requirements and I am shocked at how they’ve not been fined. In order for a person who uses a wheelchair to go to the upstairs rooftop, staff must escort the customer through a convoluted path that entails going into another building. As I was on the rooftop and needed to use the restroom (that one must use downstairs), I went downstairs, got a drink, and intended to return to the rooftop; however, the older man – whom I presume is the manager – verbally accosted me and stated that “[I] can’t go back-and-forth, [he’s] busy”. An important point: he never escorted me that night. Though the female bartender apologised on his behalf, I would never recommend J.R.’s for a person with a disability until they actively commit to improving accessibility. Not only was it discriminatory, but J.R. makes a morbid caricature of inclusivity.

Stopped by for the first time and had a really great experience. The atmosphere was relaxed, the drinks were solid, and the service really stood out. Richie took care of us and was incredibly thorough and attentive. When I asked about getting a basket of fries, he didn’t just assume he actually walked me through the options and asked exactly what I was in the mood for. He mentioned crinkle-cut fries, waffle fries, tater tots, and even offered onion rings if I wanted to switch it up. It’s little touches like that like actually checking in and making sure you get what you want which make a place memorable. Great service, great vibe. I’ll definitely be back. Thanks Richie.
