About The Late Birds

'WELCOMING GAY MEN FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD' The Late Birds Lisbon is housed in a completely restored, late-18th century building with sixteen very comfortable climate-controlled rooms, lounge, beautiful garden and UV-treated swimming pool. The idea was to "create an urban resort for the gay male community" located in the heart of Lisbon’s historical center, Bairro Alto and Principe Real, where all guests and their friends, men or women, are treated as part of the community. The owners designed the Guesthouse to feel welcoming and comfortable, as though you are at home among friends. The decoration combines classical freshness with the contemporary look of Portuguese design. Some memories from the old building and owners' private pieces throughout the common areas provide a friendly atmosphere and a fine gathering place to enjoy socializing with the hosts and other Late Birds guests. The lounge, bar and garden are perfect spaces to celebrate birthdays, gay weddings and special events or just celebrate the warmth of being among friends. As a Late Birds' guest, feel free to invite others to join you and be part of the Flock.

I had an excellent stay at The Late Birds and would highly recommend it. The staff are truly outstanding. They go above and beyond to make sure every guest has a wonderful experience, and their warmth and attention to detail made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The property is also exceptionally clean and well maintained. The location is fantastic, making it easy to explore everything Lisbon has to offer. What I especially appreciated was the balance the hotel provides: there are plenty of opportunities to socialize and meet other guests if that's what you're looking for, but there are also quiet spaces where you can relax and enjoy some peace and privacy. I also participated in the Sintra tour and the boat cruise offered through the hotel. Both were wonderful experiences and well worth it. One of the highlights of my stay was the pool area. It truly feels like a little oasis in the heart of the city. After spending the day exploring Lisbon in temperatures above 30°C, it was the perfect place to return to, unwind, and cool off. Overall, my experience at The Late Birds was exceptional. The combination of outstanding staff, a beautiful property, great amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere made for a memorable stay in Lisbon.

Highly recommend this hotel. Carlos and the team provided a very enjoyable stay. The hotel layout is perfect. The rooms are very private and quiet. Beds are very comfortable. Room layout excellent. You have a concierge available 24/7 via watts app messaging service. Thank you to Francesco, Felipe and Samual for exceptional service and attention to detail. The owner (Carlos) has renovated a beautiful terrace building into a beautiful boutique hotel. The staff are always obliging and Carlos actually chauffeured me to my day excursion which was very kind of him. Breakfast is good. Pool is beautiful. 10/10.

Thump, thump, thump….the sound you will hear nightly during season, if your room opens to the pool; we were unaware of that prior to booking our 5-night stay during the first week of June. Everything we read online and watched via YouTube reviews never mentioned there are nightly musical events in the public soccer field/park/school(?) directly behind this boutique hotel up to midnight, every night. We are not early birds at all, but a few nights, we just wanted to chill and sit outside our room on the balcony - one of the reasons we booked the room, but couldn’t as we couldn’t have a conversation where one could hear the other. So outdoor ambiance, at night? Don’t even consider it. The videos and pictures we saw online of the rooms were all cute and boutique-E, which is what we were looking for. The reality is, the rooms are much smaller than you would expect, to the point ours had about 24 inches of space between the bed and bathroom wall – I literally would turn sideways to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom. I never saw pictures of the bathrooms either, but they are small and are only separated from the bedroom via a floor to ceiling frosted glass wall and door. If you are traveling alone, this won’t be an issue, but if you are with a partner, you definitely need to be comfortable with doing your “business” with them in the room, separated only by a glass pane. The sink (only one) is about the size of a spittoon at the dentist office so if you’re the type that washes your face/shaves in the sink, expect water everywhere if you try to rinse/splash your face. We had to have maintenance come up 3 times during our 5 day stay as the toilet would not stop running. It does have a nice pool, albeit isn't heated. The grounds are nice, but the grass needed cutting and with it being so tall, I didn't see the cat poo and stepped in it, which made for a pleasant experience. The continental breakfast was great to have, but food offering didn't change at all, so by the last day, we felt like same ole, same ole. Overall, we bought into the hype online, but wouldn't go back as there are better lodging opportunities out there. I will say the staff was absolutely great and provided 5 star service.

Had a great five-night stay here. The location is on a quiet side street yet close to many great restaurants and bars. The staff are wonderful - super communicative and helpful. I really enjoyed getting to know them (while they made some delicious cocktails). Loved the breakfast each morning. Booked a day trip to Sintra through the hotel and it was excellent - enjoyed getting to travel with some of the other guests and our guide was lovely. The hotel is definitely quieter in November, so the sunset tour didn’t happen, which was a bit of a bummer. Would have liked more social opportunities to meet the other guests. My room was very spacious and comfortable. I think they could ditch the iMacs and replace with actual TVs, plus add full length mirrors. If you want a beautiful hotel with queer-friendly vibes, definitely book a stay here.
