About Rusty’s Newcastle

Rusty’s is the big, bright, relentlessly camp anchor of Times Square. Open since 2011, it has grown into one of the most recognisable LGBTQ+ venues in Newcastle, built around drag DJ hosts, singalong pop, chart tracks, cheese and a crowd that wants the fun of a club without necessarily committing to a huge nightclub. The glowing palm-tree look is part of the identity, but the real draw is the simple seven-nights-a-week reliability.\n\nInside there are multiple bars, an upstairs seating area, stage and dance space, an outdoor terrace and VIP room. Midweek can work for casual drinks and scene regulars; Friday to Sunday is much more obviously a party. For LGBTQ+ visitors arriving in Newcastle with no detailed plan, Rusty’s is a very safe first pick: central, unmistakably queer, open late and surrounded by the rest of the Pink Triangle.

What to expect

A camp, upbeat LGBTQ+ late bar with drag DJs and a proper dancefloor. Expect chart, pop and cheese rather than underground club music, with a broad mixed queer crowd.

After how much we enjoyed our visit to Rusty's Christmas themed cocktail afternoon my wife and I made sure to book up for their Halloween event and we were not disappointed. We were greeted upon arrival by staff member Chloe (whom also served us throughout our visit) and we were shown the room set aside for the event. We were well impressed with how the room was decorated (as we were at Christmas) with the attention to detail and themed booths from Harry Potter to The Addams Family etc. The themed drinks menu was also very impressive, we tried many as so many of them appealed to us as they were very imaginative and fun. Chloe made all our drinks as well as making us feel both welcome and comfortable with her good nature and friendly demeanour, and we left feeling happy and contented with our visit. Rusty's is most definitely worth a visit 😃

Came up here from Manchester after being told it was a good lgbtqia+ bar. If you are a woman the bar staff will not serve you. I spent an hour and a half qued at the bar, the bar staff completely ignored all women and only served men.

The horrible security did nothing when my phone got stolen, except kick me out of the bar for “over reacting” I’m leaving this review for any international people so they can be warned about this place’s policy. I wasn’t making a crazy scenario but this buff security guy came up to me urging to leave the bar. For anyone I don’t recommend this place if you are looking for a safe fun night! Please check out any other locations

Me and two friends went to Rustys on a Monday night. We were assaulted. Badly. My friend knocked unconscious in a completely unprovoked attack. The door staff stood by and did nothing. I have wrote an email to Rustys to complain about this. They haven’t responded at all. I commented on their Facebook. They removed my comment. This attack on us was a hate crime. The door staff did not protect us or do their job at all. No apology from Rustys. No checking how their customers are. Very very disappointed.
