About Switch

Switch sits right in the middle of Newcastle’s Pink Triangle and is designed for nights that are heading somewhere rather than winding down. The venue spreads the party over two floors, with commercial pop, dance and house-leaning sets, live DJs and a crowd that tends to arrive ready to move rather than settle in for a quiet pint. Its rooftop terrace is a useful breather when the main rooms get busy.\n\nHistorically Switch has been closely linked with Powerhouse and remains one of the most natural pre-club stops on the Newcastle gay scene. That makes it especially useful for visitors who want a simple route through the village: start with drinks elsewhere on Scotswood Road, hit Switch once the energy lifts, then move on to Powerhouse for the properly late finish. Opening nights can be concentrated around the weekend, so check current socials before making it the only plan.

What to expect

A louder, more dance-focused gay bar than The Yard or The Bank. Expect DJs, pop and dance tracks, a busy weekend crowd and a strong pre-club feel.

Not 100% sure this is actually a gay venue. Toilets are disgusting! We were let in and bought a drink and 7mins later they closed up due to poor turnout and told us to go to Powerhouse. We didnt even have time to finish our drinks. No idea why they let us in when they knew they would be closing. Not impressed at all. Avoid!

Charged £60 for a wine a Prosecco and one beer: Manger refunded us but the bartender is clearly ripping people he thinks are drunk off

Would definitely not recommend the switch bar due to the bouncers they hire being overly aggressive. I was forcibly removed from the venue for asking where the bathrooms were. Had blood dripping from my hand, and lasting marks as well as PTSD over the assault. Filed a complaint which was not investigated. If you want to enjoy a night out, and where your patronage is valued, I would highly recommend going elsewhere. I'd give 0 star if I could.

Very rare i go out, but when I do switch is always my go to, love the staff, the atmosphere, and music! There's a couple bouncers that work there that I adore! Banta on piont, never taken to far, and always looking out for the welfare of intoxicated women. Awsome night !
