About The Singing Canary

The Singing Canary opened in 2025 after a major refurbishment of the former Queens site, giving the edge of Newcastle’s Pink Triangle a bright two-floor karaoke bar built for people who would rather sing than simply stand around a dancefloor. DJs run on many nights, karaoke is central to the format, and the upstairs can also function as a more private party space.\n\nIt is not a gay bar in the old-school single-audience sense, but its location, LGBTQ+-friendly positioning and presence in current Newcastle queer-nightlife guides make it part of the modern scene. It is particularly good for groups who want an activity built into the night, or as a louder bridge between early drinks and the later bars and clubs around Times Square.

What to expect

A lively karaoke bar rather than a traditional gay pub. Expect DJs, singalong energy, two floors and a mixed but strongly LGBTQ+-friendly crowd.

Stopped by The Singing Canary on my first night out in five years and honestly couldn’t have picked a better place. The atmosphere was amazing, the décor is really trendy without trying too hard, and the bar staff were so attentive all night. You can tell the owner runs a tight ship — diligent, efficient, and clearly proud of the place. Already planning my next visit.

I loved the atmosphere. They even had a cocktail in my name.

Always good for a laugh, staff are saints, how they put up with the racaous clientele leaves me stunned, but they're always really pleasant and helpful.

I was in the area mid week for a concert and went in for a few drinks afterwards. It was not as busy as a weekend but still busy enough for a good atmosphere. There was a self service karaoke which was a lot of fun too. It might be manned on busier nights but I enjoyed the novelty of self service. Nice people and surroundings. I would definitely go back.

We booked a private room for a staff night out. Tasha was our host for the evening and she was absolutely fantastic! Would definitely 100% recommend; drinks were fab and service was impeccable! Tasha is an absolute asset to this company, you should be proud!
