About Scotswood Showbar

Scotswood Showbar is one of the newer faces of Newcastle’s Pink Triangle, taking over the former Bobby’s site and leaning hard into live entertainment. The formula is deliberately maximal: drag hosts, cabaret, karaoke, musical-theatre moments, DJs, crowd interaction and a dancefloor that keeps the night moving after the show elements finish. It feels more like a performance-led party bar than a traditional gay pub.\n\nThursday and Friday nights start later and run to 3am, while Saturday opens earlier for an all-day-to-late-night build. Sundays keep the weekend going with rotating hosts. The venue is explicitly inclusive and has become a useful counterpoint to the older institutions nearby: less heritage-pub energy, more sequins, stage lights and crowd participation. If you want Newcastle LGBTQ+ nightlife with actual entertainment rather than just music and drinks, this is one of the strongest bets.

What to expect

Performance-first queer nightlife: expect drag, cabaret, karaoke, DJs and plenty of audience interaction, with the energy usually building into a late dancefloor.

We were out with a group of friends on Saturday night and couldn’t have asked for a better atmosphere. Good service at the bar, drinks were well priced and entertainment was great. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and DJ pitched the music choices perfect for the crowd. We will definitely be back.

Just want to say the cleanest most nicest toilets in all of the town. I’m a big person of hygiene and toilets and honestly you can smell and visually see how clean they are !! The decor in the bar is very girly girl 2000s and the toilet doors hide icons such as ru Paul, Brittany and Cher. If you like clean toilets and not scruffy ones get yourselves here absolutely stunning !!!

My fiancé and I threw our engagement party here last week and I can do nothing but shower them with praise. The atmosphere was great, they’d done the venue up really nice for us with decorations and photos of us, our drag entertainer/host/DJ Lucy Phurr was unbelievable and kept the energy up for the whole afternoon. The whole team was super friendly and accommodating, and were more than willing to go above and beyond for us. It was super easy to get everything booked, and I can’t understate how reasonable the price was, especially compared to basically everywhere else in the city, as well as how well priced the drinks themselves were on the day. Massive thank you to Michelle and Mia who looked after us and helped make our day extra special.

Back in January I held my hen do celebrations at The Scotswood Showbar along with 30 of my hens! The atmosphere was fantastic, Liam listened to all of my ideas and the team had gone to great lengths to decorate the venue. We even had our own seating area reserved for us. The host Lucy Phurr got the party started and later in the evening we had cabaret from Queen Queef. Everybody had a fantastic time and they all commented on how reasonably priced the drinks were. Massive thank you to Michelle and the bar staff who looked after us and helped make our night so special (and even helped to get us all home safely!) Couldn't recommend this place enough :)

Lush atmosphere, good dance tunes, always lovely barstaff. Really good drinks deals. Be prepared for incredibly loud speakers, probably the loudest in Newcastle other than some of the clubs 😂
