About Stonewall Hotel

Stonewall Hotel was one of the great institutions of Sydney's Oxford Street gay scene. Across three levels and multiple bars, it hosted nightly drag, DJs, dancing, community events and major Mardi Gras celebrations for almost three decades. The Darlinghurst venue entered voluntary administration and ceased trading in March 2026. Despite older pages and opening-hour listings that may still appear online, the Oxford Street venue is permanently closed. This page is retained as an archive of its place in Sydney LGBTQ+ nightlife.

Great bar, was like a classic New York Gay Bar. Brought a few mates here for dinner drinks and it's chilled in the day and drag at night, love it here

First visit here in a while. Great food, excellent price and service. The venue was not to busy when we visited, but imagine it is much busier towards the weekend.

A lot was going on when I went. Not 'a lot' in a bad way, per se. It was definitely overstimulating. The drinks were good, except this one shot of rum I took - it tasted like old sea water. But other than that very 💅🏽

I stumbled across this bar while hanging out with other digital nomads. They had drag shows performances and each performer was wonderful. The bartenders were attentive even though it was busy. If you get there early enough (around 10 pm) there are tables for you to sit or stand around. It's located near a few bus stops so its easy to get in and out from. Loved the vibe and drinks. Would go again.

The guards tonight were extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. Making jokes at our expense and treating us unfairly is not funny — it’s embarrassing and unacceptable. If you’re going to represent a place, at least act with basic respect. We were treated badly for no reason, and that reflects poorly on you, not us. Do better. 😡😡😡
